A Star is Born

About Me

LeDon was born on May 22 in Pittsburgh, PA on his mother’s birthday. As an only child, his parents noticed his gifts very early. Within his first year of life, LeDon became a Stevie Wonder fan as he would always walk up to the stereo speakers in his walker and bounce rhythmically when he heard Stevie’s voice. By 5 years of age he displayed an uncanny ability to consistently hold his own note, harmonizing with both parents as they sang various church hyms as an acappella trio. His father noticed his finger dexterity while watching him type on a typewriter and wondered what would happen if he were to combine musical elements with his finger dexterity…so he bought LeDon his first keyboard at 7 years of age. LeDon was already able to play the piano and sing simultaneously by the 3rd grade and was asked to play and sing in every graduation until he graduated. In high school he went on to sing in various church, school, and outside choirs and ensembles. He participated in several musicals and plays over the years that explored various genres of music including: gospel, jazz and broadway/popular music. In 1995, he was honored with the best solo male vocalist in the city award as he won several competitions singing opera, jazz and gospel inspired songs. He formed his own choir called The Stone of Truth at the age of 15, performing several songs that he arranged and composed throughout many churches in the city of Pittsburgh. During that same time, he joined a group called 5th Key which began as a church based group in the Church of God and Saints of Christ and later branched out into R&B. After the group disbanded he remained to keep in touch and work with the group’s manager/song writer, Derrick Culler and one of the group’s primary producers, Joshua Thompson, who introduced him to Darryl Anthony of Az Yet and the rest of that story is history in the making. His vocal styles are heavily influenced by jazz and gospel music while his technique and control are based primarily in opera training.Other interests include: Movies, reading novels-both fiction and non-fiction, playing video games, playing basketball and working out at the gym to name a few. My Interests

Music:

Band Website: azyetmusic.com
Band Members: I'm also one of the lead singers for the platinum group Az Yet!

Influences: I grew up on real music so I like real music. The business has become so visual now that artform and real vocal talent are overlooked! You used to have to be able to come with it...but video literally killed the radio star! So I like a bunch of Gospel but to name a few...Kim Burrell, Donnie McClurkin, Take 6, The Clark Sisters, Jay Moss and Tonex. I also listen to a lot of old Jazz classics such as the work of Sarah Vauhn, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. I love plenty of R&;B stuff in the past but the new stuff I'm feeling would be, Jill Scott, India Arie, Usher, Destiny's Child, Alicia Keys, Mario, Fantasia, and I'm sure there are a few more but I can't think of them right this sec. I'm a mad hip-hop head as well! I like the early pioneers, KRS One, P.E. X-Clan, Digable Planets, LL Cool J, Eric B. and Rakim, D Nice, Big Daddy Kane, etc. But I'm also feelin some of the newer stuff too....Nas, Biggie, Pac, Wu Tang, Kanye, Jigga and the list goes on!! My musical tastes are broad to say the least because I even like some rock stuff and classical music as well.
Record Label: Innersoul Records as an Az Yet member

What ensures that an artist will stick?

It seems like America just wants more...more...and more stuff. I'm not sure if it's good stuff that's actually being craved for or just the idea that it's another one...a different looking one, but th...

The New Year

I hope this new year brings incredibly talented artists to the forefront. Music has become so watered down that people don't know what's good from bad anymore. Real talent has taken a back seat to the...
