Formed in 2001, the North Carolina based alternative/hard rock band Tramping Ground began their journey in the chaotic world of music. Tramping Ground originally formed as a four piece and spent an entire year doing nothing but practicing and writing as much music as they could. Then with the financial backing of their previous manager and booking agent Dave Hockaday, they began working on their debut album which they released themselves. They went in to Sonic Wave Recording Studios of North Carolina and worked with producer/engineer Mark Cimerro. At first recorded for two weeks straight, then went for a weekend a month for the remainder of the time. Over all they spent almost an entire year working on the album. Meanwhile still progressing as a band the entire time. They began playing out immediately after they cut the first few songs so they could go ahead and make demos to spread around and get a buzz going. They were playing between two and four shows every single week all over the entire state of North Carolina as well as some here and there in all the surrounding states. Keep in mind this is during the time they were in the studio, so there would be times that they would play a festival during the day, a show that night, then have a late night recording session. While playing out all these shows, their fan base rapidly began to grow, especially in places that they would frequently play at. A big thing that helped was the fact that they gave away aproximately five hundred copies of their three song EP. Once the album was released, entirely on their own, with no backing at all, they sold aproximately one thousand copies via the internet and at shows.
Once they had the final product they began doing numerous radio interviews, and was getting air play from all the stations in NC, as well as random other FM, AM, and internet stations, all over the country. Some of which had some of their tracks in the top 10 most requested songs. They also got on a syndicated station in Canada, as well as a syndicated station in Australia which each broadcasted to about forty or fifty stations. They began to get a lot of response and CD sales from both countries. But Tramping Ground, as well as most bands out there now, owe a lot to the internet. Other than their main website ( www.TrampingGround.com ), they have always ran numerous other mini-sites. Thanks to these, they have won many awards. They have been named "Artist Of The Week" and "Video Of The Day" on SonicGarden.com, one of their tracks was named "Track Of The Day" in the hard rock category of GarageBand.com, and in the Raleigh/Durham category of Barstar.com, they were named best band of the year for 2002, 2003, and 2004. Also, on mp3.com they had five tracks in the top ten songs of North Carolina out of hundreds and hundreds of songs. They also had a song reach up to number 157 in the entire USA, as well as another song at 188, out of tens of thousands of other songs. Then of course they recently got on the modern myspace.com where they have an ever growing online fan base which currently stands at aproximately 1861 people. As far as other acomplishments, they won the "Last Band Standing" battle of the bands that was hosted by WDCC 90.5 and have played with National acts such as Wolfpac, Clutch, L7, Days Of The New, and SR71, as well as numerous semi-national bands. Tramping Ground has also been featured in numerous magazines, e-zines, and newsletters...the most recent being an internationally read professional audio and music production magazine, MIX. They also just recently were featured on the Time Warner Cable show, "Rockin' Clubs" that reaches approximately half a million households all over manhattan.
After a lot of history and amends to the band over the years, the band now has it's final and rock solid lineup as a five piece. But through all the changes, the goals and ideas have been the same, they've just progressed and built on to them. They have stayed in the same direction; everything with it's original touch, from the harmonies, to the style of screams, to the rockin' hard riffs, as well as slow and touching melodies, which both will grab you like a hook. "They're like a musical melting pot, blending genres such as alt rock and metal that will stay stuck in your head for days. Not only do they rock out with their instruments, but their vocal deliverance is staggering. Blending gutteral screams with angelic harmonies, Tramping Ground can rock your socks and touch your soul at the same time."....quoted from a review on ncmetal.com, 2/19/03. Since the formation of the new lineup, the guys traveled up to New York for a month and recorded their new album at Dream Maker Sound Studios, with producer/engineer Robert "Void" Capprio. While awaiting the mastered copy and all the new things to come, they continually travel and play as many venues as they can, and keep writing songs to the likings of fans of such hard rock bands as Staind, Chevelle, Disturbed, Deftones, Breaking Benjamin, etc.
Also, one of our loyal fans made a fan club on myspace...so feel free to join and it'll be a good way to keep posted about TG news! Here's the link... http://groups.myspace.com/TGfansThanks to everyone who came out to the TG Farewell Show!!!
