Born and raised in Tokyo till he moved to LA when he was thirteen years old due to his father's business. his dream then was to become a professional soccer player, but when He was introduced to playing electric bass on a local rock-jam band playing at backyard house parties, he realized that he was destined to commit his life to music. After graduating from high school, he entered into a music-oriented college where he studied composing, bass, and improvisational skills. he was also a part of the school gospel choir where he met his personal mentor dennis montgomery the third who introduced him to the world of gospel and R&B soul. this is when he was inspired to work on his keyboard and singing skills. at the same time he was introduced the world of techno and drum&bass which later led him to london for three months for pure raver experience. after spending 8 years in the u.s,it was time for him to go back to japan to start something fresh in his homeland japan. He formed his own improvisation-oriented group called POSH which started out as yamauchi on bass and daisuke sato on drums just improvising grooves inspired by his clubbing days.for the sake of experiencing playing in front of people,they played everywhere from streets of shibuya to bars and clubs in tokyo.while posh was mostly centered on grooves yamauchi also had a strong desire to write melodies and program tracks on cubase.after bunch of experiments, he had good enough tunes to be released on cds. his first single jyukai and his album tsuki no deshio was realeased in spring of 2001. he played his solo electronica set in various venues including bullets in nishiazabu,and Sonarsound tokyo in Oct./2002 where he met people from a label third-ear who helped him to release his second album "preferable reality" which led him to perform at sonar 2005 in barcelona and various parties and festivals in europe. he spent total of six months in europe mostly in berlin that year to get a taste on the music scene and meeting a lots of people along the way. back from europe in 2006 ,yamauchi is more flexable in ways he does live. he can be playing with a drummer and his laptop with him playing keys and singing at music festivals, or he could be simply playing his songs with piano and singing at small cafes and bars. or he could be playing his grooves on bass with POSH. he just knows that he's destined to keep growing spiritually while he enjoys the process of making and performing music for people.
