tanning on the porch. Broken down red brick buildings
crumble into ashes along with the past.
The sea washes them into salt air.
Riding in the passenger seat of the Moving truck into a
new neighborhood with memories of being a highschool outcast.
Ave. J and E13 St. seems real on paper but it’s just a thought in my mind.
Arabs sell plastic trinkets: monkeys with cymbals,
Hawaiian dolls hula dancing, hats, scarves, cigarettes.
Jews dressed in all black, curls hanging near to shoulders.
Mom and Pops’ are sprinkled around the streets,
Rite Aid looms in shuttering sight on the corner of Coney Island Ave.
I walk down Flatbush Ave. smelling and remembering sandalwood incense,
the bright Haitian and Jamaican colors, the dark and light faces
and the walk of the ‘hood: women swinging their hips,
brothers with long locks sitting in front of barber shops.
Immersed so much I have trouble remembering everything.
