About Me

In the not so distant past I enjoyed a great profusion of activity. I weaved fables with words. I conjured electronic harmonies which I performed on my dual gramophone contraption. Sometimes I'd sit at a table and roll dice or shuffle cards. I was engaged in a protracted fight with the powers that be. I thought in prolific quantity and was known to wax philosophic. I engaged in debate constantly and enthusiastically. From time to time I attended rock shows. But now I am enrolled in graduate school and employ a rich vernacular but suffer a dearth of leisure time. I had too many friends - who grow ever more vexed with me as I repeatedly fail to call them back. Also, I'm currently in China, as far away from American Idol, as I could get.

My Interests

filling out myspace profiles - at length. Zombies. And pointing out how Marx was totally right... just not right then.

I'd like to meet:

a 3rd level magic-user, that hard-to-find white label, and the girl who walked off with my heart at that party last weekend...also dying police officers in midwestern states...

Music:

either bands you've never heard of, or bands that were popular before they were discovered to be lip synching. also postal service, shiny toy guns, i love you but i've chosen darkness; editors; joy division; explosions in the sky, pinback; the decemberists, pet shop boys;christie front drive, guided by voices; too short; fugazi; magnetic fields, reggie n the full effect, antarctica, modest mouse; the get up kids; orbital, n.w.a., hybrid, deepsky, way out west, sasha & digweed, jimmy eat world, bad religion, the faint, murder city devils; misfits, they might be giants, violent femmes, toad the wet sprocket, sunny day real estate, the appleseed cast, new edition; youth group; alkaline trio; mineral; minus story; mono; the new black

Movies:

i mostly enjoy the films of DW Griffith because they sensitively and fairly handle issues of race. and "The Neverending Story."

Television:

i don't watch tv - and i make sure to mention that loudly at parties, restaurants, cafes etc.

Books:

its hard to be witty about books. for that we have mark twain. for the theater we have oscar wilde. 1984 is a much better book than a year. I can't stop re-reading 100 Years of Solitude... i wonder if that's some lingering effect of the book's theme? i'll have to ask Melquiades the next time he passes through town.

Heroes:

i prefer villains. and scoundrels. also malefactors ...especially if they're arrayed in some sort of brotherhood, legion, league, or consortium of like-minded, proactive blackguards.
