They will hunt you down, if they suspect that you will join the revolution, but give me a message, and I can get to you first.------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------------------Software engineer by day, ace hacker by night, I worm my way into classified information and well-protected computer systems by night, and my electronic trespasses have uncovered an unsettling question to which there seems to be no answer: what is the Matrix? The answer comes unexpectedly when I am contacted by another hacker named Trinity, who drops a few tantalizing hints - and tells me that Morpheus, a famed hacker who is almost a celebrity in his own right, is looking for him. A surreal series of events follows, in which I am terrorized by FBI agents who implant a bio-electronic bug in my body, and then has that bug removed violently by Trinity and her cohorts. I then go to a fateful meeting with Morpheus, who promises to share some great truth with me. But the truth is almost more than I can handle: humanity is a doomed race, bred and enslaved by its own cybernetic creations. I am not actually a programmer in a bustling metropolis, but an emaciated shell of a human being trapped in a pod of amniotic fluids and hooked up to provide bio-electrical power to the insectoid machines. Morpheus, Trinity, and their compatriots are liberated humans who roam what's left of Earth in a hovercraft, always on the run from cybernetic "agents" - both in the real world, and via their virtual representations inside the Matrix. All of humanity is connected to the Matrix, a massive virtual reality construct which gives them the illusions of lives, jobs, families, relationships, and more - events which happen only in the minds of the enslaved humans as their bodies waste away to feed their masters. Morpheus believes that I am The One, a messianic figure who will be able to manipulate the virtual reality of the Matrix to an unprecedented degree, even to the point of thwarting the beings who control it. But before I can reach that point, I must survive encounters with the agents, a betrayal from within Morpheus' own crew - and my own doubts. MY FRIENDSTrinity: Trinity is Morpheus' right-hand. Morpheus freed her years ago and she has since become his most trusted ally. The Oracle told her she would fall in love with the One.Morpheus: Captain of the hovercraft Nebuchadnezzar, Morpheus believes in The Oracle's prophecy, and he believes he has finally found the One. He acts as Neo's mentor. Morpheus' previous rock-solid beliefs in Neo and the prophecy are shaken by The Architect's claims. Doubt creeps in as Neo heads for the machine city, but Morpheus focuses on co-piloting the Hammer back to Zion with Niobe.Serif: Guardian of The Oracle, Serif is a program in the Matrix who assists Trinity and Morpheus in confronting the Merovingian (thereby rescuing Neo). The Merovingian refers to him as the 'the prodigal son', suggesting a previous relationship, and possibly betrayal.

Switch and Apoc are portrayed as front-line soldiers while inside the Matrix, acting as "point" and "rear guard" in their escape from the Agents and police and providing covering fire as they make their way into the sewers. Switch also pokes fun at Mouse, calling him "the digital pimp." Switch was killed when her mind was forcibly jacked out of the Matrix by Cypher, who betrayed the crew in an attempt to return to the Matrix as a permanent resident himself. Cypher killed Apoc and Dozer before being killed by Tank, the ship's Operator. Captain Mifune: Commander of the APUs (Armored Personnel Units), Mifune leads the ground defences against the sentinels when they break through the dock walls.Cypher: A member of Morpheus' crew, Cypher decides the life of a resistance fighter isn't all it's cracked up to be and engineers a deal to be reinserted back into the Matrix, at the expense of Zion.The Oracle: An unusual inhabitant of the Matrix, The Oracle is able to see the future. Morpheus takes members of his crew to her, most importantly Neo. The Oracle is also responsible for the original prophecy concerning the existence of the One.Persephone: Wife of Merovingian, Persephone tires of her husband's infidelities and assists our heros in locating The Keymaker...but at what cost to Neo? Niobe: Captain of the hovercraft Logos, former flame of Morpheus, and now with Commander Lock.Tank: A member of Morpheus' crew, Tank was born in Zion - he never was a slave to the Matrix. His brother Dozer is also on the Nebuchadnezzar. Tank thwarts Cypher's plan, but not before Cypher wipes out most of the crew.

Mouse: A member of Morpheus' crew, Mouse is the 'digital pimp' responsible for programming the woman in red - he offers private visits with her as well.MY ENEMIES -Agent Smith: A rogue program in the Matrix, Smith is able to do almost everything Neo can, plus a few things Neo can't (like creating unlimited exact copies of himself). Smith's motivations have changed since his re-birth - destroying Neo seems to be his only focus.Agents Jones & Brown: Two other sentient programs, they have all the dangerous capabilities of Agent Smith, but are not as individualistic or driven as he is.Merovingian: Likely another program in the Matrix, Merovingian holds The Keymaker captive, standing in Neo's way. His wife, Persephone, betrays him.The Architect is the 'father' of the Matrix. He's an entity from the machine world and he designed the original 'failed' Matrix and the current 'successful' one. The first Matrix failed because it was too perfect.
