AWIJ IS DEAD.

About Me

A Week In July was born in the summer of 2000 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when five good friends came together because they all enjoyed playing music. The band's sound can be described as aggressive power pop incorporating indie rock and slight post-hardcore sensibilities. Three weeks after practicing with their new drummer, AWIJ took first place in the Joker Productions Battle of the Bands in Pittsburgh. Soon after they were opening for national acts such as Dashboard Confessional and The Anniversary. After such a short period of time, with their intense live performance AWIJ had instant positive crowd response, gaining a solid fan base in Pittsburgh and soon shared the stage other bands such as The All American Rejects, Gym Class Heroes, Mindless Self Indulgence, Midtown, Hot Rod Circuit, The Juliana Theory, Alkaline Trio, Saosin, Mae, and Further Seems Forever and Hidden In Plain View. They were also awarded a spot on the Ernie Ball Stage at the 2002 Vans Warped Tour. The band kept writing songs, practicing, and playing as many shows as possible and the band began to grow as a whole. In the summer of 2001 AWIJ did a small tour around the surrounding states, playing shows with long time friends Punchline (Fueled By Ramen). AWIJ recorded in the summer of 2002 with ex Anti-Flag member Andy Wright and Billy Rossi their 9-song CD debut entitled Near Fatal Explosion. The band signed in December 2002 to Orange Peal Records an Independent California label released Near Fatal Explosion.
