Foreign Affair

New York and Firenze Unite

About Me

Brand new and right out of the heart of Tuscany, “Foreign Affair” is one of today’s most exciting rising jazz groups. Consisting of a unique synthesis of Italians and Americans, “Foreign Affair” has created a new sound that stems from completely form its cross-cultural network of musicians. Using the new, hip and ultra-cool sounds of New York combined with the mighty and majestic musical tradition of Italy, “Foreign Affair” has truly created a spectacular sound sensation. Started in 2008, Foreign Affair features Nick Myers and Jas Walton on tenor saxophones, Spencer Zahn on bass, Ross Edwards on piano, and Stefano Tamborrino on drums.Jas Walton started playing jazz saxophone ten years ago, and has since developed into one of the finest young musicians New York City has to offer. Jas is currently attending his second year at New York University, where he has worked with numerous jazz giants, including Kenny Werner, Ralph Lalama, Ralph Alessi, Ron McLure, and Dafnis Prieto, among others. Jas's unique style and melodic sensibilities have brought him to numerous venues in New York City, as well as the Costa Rican International Jazz Festival.Spencer Zahn grew up in Massachusetts, where he began playing piano at a young age. He started playing jazz as the pianist for his elementary school jazz band, but then found an interest in the electric bass, and eventually started studying the acoustic bass at the end of high school. He now lives in New York and has the opportunity to study and perform with many great musicians such as Ralph Alessi, Jean-Michel Pilc, Kenny Werner, Brian Lynch, and Chris Potter. Some of his other current projects in New York are with the jazz quintet, the Mortal Quintet, and the rock group, War Canoes. Spencer is excited to be back in Italy performing with the newly formed quintet, Foreign Affair.Ross Edwards began playing jazz piano in high school in New Mexico, where he studied briefly with Kevin Hays. Since attending New York University in 2006, Ross has had the opportunity to study with Kenny Werner, Vijay Iyer, Wayne Krantz, and Ralph Alessi, and has felt he has improved greatly as a pianist and as a person. Ross has performed in various venues in New York, and participated in the Costa Rican International Jazz Festival. He feels extremely lucky to be able to perform with close friends in a beautiful country with Foreign Affair.Stefano Tamborrino started playing drums in 2000 at age 19. Because he is a self-taught musician, he has developed his own unique musical style. He plays the drums with an instinctual feel that is very difficult to find in today’s musical world . He has played with some of the best Italian musicians including Mr. Ares Tavolazzi, Mr. Riccardo Onori, Mr. Franco Santarnecchi, Mr. Stefano "cocco" Cantini, Mr. Marco Tamburini and Zenerswoon.Nicholas Myers started his musical adventure in Washington where he began playing the saxophone in school. Since moving to New York in 2005 and attending New York University, Nick has had the opportunity to work and study with some of the finest musicians in the world. George Garzone, Ralph Lalama, Ralph Alessi, Brian Lynch, Jean-Michel Pilc, and Richard Bona have all contributed to Nick’s development as a musician. With the upcoming release of his newest CD, Nick has truly claimed a spot in the next generation of musicians.I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
