About Me

BIOGRAPHYAlessandro De Benedetti was born on 12 December 1973 in Genoa. In the ’Nineties he studied design in Milan and began to draw cartoon strips, inspired by Crepax and Frank Miller. He entered the fashion world through a series of important experiences of international scope. Having worked with Saverio Palatella, in ‘92 he moved to Australia where he designed the George Cross Sportswear brand, and in ‘94 he transferred to Paris to work for Thierry Mugler’s high-fashion atelier. In 1998 he returned to Italy to make his debut on Milan’s catwalks, with a brand that bears his own name, and a series of “inspired collections” that combine artistic sensitivity with careful attention to cut and details. 2005 marked the arrival of a new financial partner, Gentex of Milan, which, through its G-Fashion section, focuses specific know-how in terms of research, distribution and market segmentation on Alessandro De Benedetti’s work.STYLEThe alternative punk music of the ‘Eighties, the shadowy gothic sensitivity, a love for the alternative cinema of Russ Meyer and Alejandro Jodorovski, the noir style of Joan Crawford and Siouxsie Sioux, ‘Fifties French couture and the musical street-style of the last twenty years. Women drawn on paper for underground magazines come to life in collections where dress is the ultimate expression of a world made up of contrasting elements, of icons and personal legends that take shape and transform into ironic, sensual madams, shuffling the cards of style. Beguiling, evocative and mysterious, De Benedetti’s women move between the lines of the stories that inspire his collections and put the woman herself centre-stage, with all her contradictions and her desire to seduce through role-playing games.ICONSMaila Nurmi, Tura Satana, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Danielle Dax, El Topo, Kill Kill Pussycat, Dark Entries, The Hunter, Wendy O’ Connor, Talullah Bankhead, Peter Murphy, The Creatures, The Holy Mountain, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Passion of Lovers, Kate, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.MUSIC :: MADAME XA big fan and follower of alternative music, having played in underground rock bands himself, Alessandro De Benedetti launches in 2007 MADAME X, the electro-goth band in which he is the front man.

Aggiungi al mio profilo | altri VideoCONTEMPORARY ART :: LUX AETERNA_A NEW CONCEPT OF BEAUTYLUX AETERNA is a contemporary project born from the collaboration between the fashion designer ALESSANDRO DE BENEDETTI and CORPICRUDI, multimedia artists working with contemporary art, music and style.
The algid white widows of the spring/summer 2008 collection by the designer are the subject of a photographic series and a lightbox installation presented for the solo exhibition curated by the Italian art critic and curator Luca Beatrice at Marena Rooms Gallery in Torino, Italy (October/November 07). Timeless creatures suspended in aseptic still lifes created by corpicrudi and inspired by the Vanitas of the 17th century with the Lux Aeterna original music by CLINT MANSELL featuring KRONOS QUARTET. The images have been on exhibition also with Amphisbaena Studio d'Arte Contemporanea in Modena, Italy (December 07/February 08).
And even more. LUX AETERNA has been invited at ALTAROMALTAMODA in Rome, Italy (January 31st 2008): a new installation_performance directed by corpicrudi featuring a preview of the autumn/winter 2008/09 collection by the designer with music by CHRISTIAN RAINER.
"...De Benedetti’s young and icy women stage a model that is most definitely projected in the past and that is laden with pictorial symbols (the Pre-Raphaelites, late 19th century symbolists) and literary symbols (Poe, Sheridan Le Fanu, Hoffmann). White is the predominant colour that is transformed into sheer ghost-like absence, seizing light and unveiling its spiritual meaning well beyond appearances. The contribution provided by ‘corpicrudi’ stems from an ideal aesthetic-stylistic concurrence....Fifteen photographs conceived as 21st century still life representations are the core of Lux Aeterna. The photographs evoke the subjects of traditional iconography as regards this genre. Vanitas is exemplified by the death’s head and cut flowers. The work emphasises well-known and even more harmonious, symmetric and classically beautiful elegance: a veritable statement of necessary beauty. Art would be meaningless without it..." (Moving towards a new concept of beauty by Luca Beatrice / Lux Aeterna catalogue by Damiani Editore).

My Interests

Music:

MADAME XDeconstructed songs, electro-acoustic rhythms, orchestral harmonies. Siouxsie meets Berlin, futuristic lullabies, twisted bass, theatrical dissonant sounds. Amber - absinthe + marimbas. The Madame X project is a poisonous cocktail, imaginative eroticism that throws you into a sensual, dreamlike trip. It is intellectual, visionary, gothic irony, that is complemented by visuals where images from '70s Italian cartoon subculture - the photo comic book Killing, Max Bunker's Satanik – collide with the Chapman brothers' contemporary art. It is the soundtrack to throbbing obsessions in clubs in Los Angeles, to tribal journeys through the deserts of Greg Araki, to parties where Sonic Youth wear Christian Dior and Christian Death dress up as the stars of Squeeze Box.babies in toyland, psychic tv,giant sands, morricone, phantomas,my ruin, otep, ministry, lydia lunch, danielle dax, bikini kill, siouxsie, patrick wolf, sonic youth, burzum, nin, soul wax, elettric hellfire club:,she wants revenge, nin, diamanda galas, gitane demone, current 93,soul wax, rosemary s baby, wire, roxy music, deus, sonic youth, devics, suicide, desert kisses
