About Me
3 Years might seem like a long time between drinks, but its been time well spent for Melodyssey, making sure that the next time they do, it will be something even more special to remember. Having just finished recording for their sophomore effort, the guys are bursting at the seams to show the public just what theyve been up to in those 3 years.
This latest effort sees the Sunshine Coast/ Brisbane Quartet boasting a far more mature and sonically impressive record, with Forrester savell at the production helm. With Forrester having produced and engineered some of Australias leading hard rock acts such as Karnivool, Full Scale and The Butterfly Effect, Melodyssey surely places themselves in great company indeed! The guys worked very closely with Forrester in pre- production on the Sunshine Coast and moved to Brisbane for Three weeks to record the album, again at Modern Music Studios. This marks the Third time that the band has used the thriving studio/label, Firstly on their debut self-titled e.p and then the well received debut long player Distance & Regret. The boy..s also travelled back to the sunny coast to perform additionl vocal production and tracking with producer Az Kerwin of Light Of Day studios. This time is a little different however, with the new record being mixed in Melbourne with Forrester Savell rather than in Brisbane with David Leonard. This change coincides with the bands revamped sound which now relies a great deal more on melody and harmony rather than the riff factor that the band was so strongly associated with on their 2003 release. Thats not to say that the band has lost its riffing way, but instead, put the emphasis on onto the melodic side in an attempt to gain their listeners emotional investment to the music.
The new record also marks another change in the fact that, whilst they recorded their latest offering at Modern Music Studios, Melodyssey are no longer under the Modern label. Now the band faces the challenge of releasing their new album independently or finding another label to release it, which the band finds quite exciting, almost like a fresh start.
For the moment though, Melodyssey are currently preparing to play some live shows to warm up for the new release and perform some showcases for label folk. Any way you look at it, its an exciting time in the bands life right now with a new producer, new sound and possibly a new label. The guys have an enthusiasm that has not been seen for some time and it shows in their music which is as fresh and urgent as it has ever been. The future looks bright for this young band and one listen to the new material will confirm this. 2006 is Melodysseys year and the time in which the group will live up to its potential and join the top ranks of Australian rock music.

"Melodyssey's songs snake and meander before the inevitable crunch and jump. They have a phat, warm guitar tone; their singer can actually handle a tune. They combine it with an equally warm and tight rhythm section."
