About Me

UPCOMING SHOWS!!! (subject to change... new shows added frequently!)
THE VERBTONES
And we're ON for our 3rd visit to our friends in SoCal!
The Purple Orchid in El Segundo, California
on July 18th
The Huntington Beach International Surf Museum
on July 19th.
Stay tuned for more SoCal dates....
Here are a few random posters, CD covers, press kit and junk I've done for The Verbtones. Designing stuff is fun!
Commodore Schmidlapp is a character in the 60s Batman Movie. My real name is Steve, but seems like everyone in Portland has a nickname, so "when in Rome..."
I play drums in The Verbtones. That's me on Vampyro Classics tunes "Carnival of Souls", "Flight of the Vampyre" and "Undead Theme." We're recording new tunes.... There are a couple rough mixes for your listening pleasure on The Verbtones MySpace profile... check my Top 8.
I'm also working on new CD covers for The Verbtones... below is the latest version for our next CD, but I think we're going to try something with our extremely handsome faces on the cover in an effort to boost sales!!! (yeah right...) We're recording new songs right now and it's going to be a surf rock twang-fest!
I sit in with Mars Needs Women when Gorgon get's called back to the Red Planet for women inventory. These shows are a usually a great combo of rockabilly and surf. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to be able to back up touring acts like the fabulous Pep Torres and others usually thanks to the recommendation of friends like Johnny Mercury, Marshall Scott Warner and Roger Conelly. Other projects spring up from time to time so don't be surprised if you see me back there doing my best to lay down a solid backbeat!

My Interests

ALWAYS interested in the lovely Haley!

This is Peter Mel at the 2006 Nelscott Reef Tow In surf competition in Lincoln City Oregon on Friday, ..h. And this was the shore break!!! The waves on the reef were +30 feet, but it's like a half mile away, so my pics were grainy.

My '06 VW GTI. It's VERY fast and I STILL can't stop smiling.

DRUMS! This is my 1961 Slingerland Kit. I also use a 1971 (I think) Ludwig Set. I keep the beat in The Verbtones and have performed with Pep Torres, Mars Needs Women, The Cha Cha Show, Justin Curtis, Johnny Mercury & The Hot Rockets, The Hot Rod Rockets, Nadine & The Boogiemen, The Speedway Playboys, Rip Carson & Malibu Run.

TIKIS! I dig my mugs & I'm most relaxed in a nice, dark Tiki Bar.

VINTAGE TRAILERS! I have a 1956 Airstream Safari that's in the process of getting a new floor. (This one isn't mine... but it's the same model and mine is going to look BETTER than this one... I hope!)

This one's mine, too. A 1956 Aloha. It needs some work, but the interior's really nice and it's useable right now. We towed it to LA the day after we bought it... got a blow out. But it was fun!

OLD VOLVOS! I have a '71 1800E and have owned a '66 122S and a '64 544.

SURFING! Yup, a surf musician who actually gets in the water! This is me and my 8 yr. old grommet Max discussing a 8-foot soft top. The Oregon coast has great waves! And we have 4/3 wetsuits! This pic was taken in September.

I'd like to meet:

Greatest Rock and Roll drummer EVER!!!
