Please forward us to your friends; when we reach 6,000 friends, WorldofGood.com will provide sewing machines needed for skills training to the Njau Women's Tailoring Project in Gambia. Your efforts help fund a grant for 2 new machines & vital supplies to the Co-op!...
The Njau Recycling & Income Generating Group (NRIGG) is a woman's Co-op in rural Gambia, focused on creative solutions to the devastating issues of poverty, poor waste management & low literacy rates in their village. Their volunteer-run Skills Center offers peer training for women to learn income-generating activities (sewing & tailoring), enabling them to provide education & basic necessities to their families.
Currently, they lack the sewing machines & materials needed to train their members in tailoring.
To date, ~70 women have been trained in recycling plastic bags into colorful purses, tailoring, tie-dying fabrics, soap making, beadwork, literacy courses, financial planning and savings accounts, & participate in regular village cleanings & community gardens. NRIGG has been able to rid the village of compounding trash, creating a healthier living environment for the villagers, decreasing the spread of malaria by eradicating mosquito breeding grounds & preventing the ingestion of plastic bags by livestock.
Help this Co-op thrive by spreading the words to your friends!
