I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm a musician, photographer, and artist. At the moment I live in Los Angeles. I make my living playing various gigs as a solo act, including Renaissance Festivals. You can see my galleries and hear more of my music at www.kennyklein.net.
Little known facts about me:
I have had a very low key career as a photographer for years. I get shows every now and then.
In the '80s I worked in a porn theater in NYC.
I've lived or worked in pretty much every lower U.S. state except Idaho.
I was in the Punk scene in NYC in the early '80s. All of my friends from that era are now either dead or famous.
I taught Bela Fleck to play the guitar. I claim no responsibility for the banjo. I have no idea where THAT came from!
I have been writing a novel, set in the NYC Punk scene in the '80s, for eight years now. I have about 100 pages written. (at this rate, it will be done in 2018 or so).
I did write a book that was published. The Flowering Rod, Delphi, 1993. Go ahead, try. You won't find it.
Armenian men stand arguing nightly just outside my door. It's a delight, really.

My Interests

Music, photography, art, graphic novels, goth chix, the origami of life, daydreaming, worrying about day to day existence.

I'd like to meet:

The Valkyries, Anne Bonny, the Loch Ness Monster, and Jack Russell so I can tell him his terriers suck.

Music:

Tegan and Sara are my current faves: Noe Venable, Rasputina, Fairport Convention, Delirium, Richard Thompson, the Incredible String Band, Dead Can Dance, Poe, Shawn Colvin, Old Crow Medicine Show, Lili Hayden, the Be Good Tanyas, early Donovan, Tanita Tikirum, Robert Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Cadillac Angels, Bill Monroe, the Dead for about 6 months in 1968, Concrete Blond, the Sharp Ease, Lunachicks, people you've never heard of.

Movies:

The Court Jester (Danny Kaye), the Three Musketeers (Michael York, Richard Chamberlain, dir. Richard Lester), Lolita (Domanique Swain, Jeremy Irons), King Kong (1933), White Oleander, original Star Wars, Charade, almost any Humphrey Bogart, almost every Audrey Hepburn, most Harrison Ford, most Christina Ricci, anything with Julia Stiles or Kirstin Dunst. The Swimming Pool, Walkabout, the Last Wave (those whackey aussies), LOTR (and kiwis), Amelie (Audrey Tattou is my Goddess, even if I'm not sure how to spell her name offhand. ).

Television:

Deadwood, the L Word (you go Liesha Hailey), Wonderfalls (the greatest TV show ever taken off the air!!). I just watched Made, on MTV, which despite myself I really enjoyed (unsuspecting teens with angst and a real identity are transformed into mindless consumers with negligable self esteem, all in the name of television reality entertainment). And, yes, I watch ANTM.

Books:

Sandman and all other Neal Gaiman, The Virgin Suicides (JeffreyEugeneides), Promiscuities (Naomi Wolf), Bones of the Moon (Johnathan Carroll), The Masters of Solitude (Marvin Kaye and Parke Godwin), I Capture The Castle (Dodie Smith), most Shirly Jackson. I am currently reading "100 Strokes of the Brush Before Bed," which despite the hype is not impressing me. After that I'll start "Thicker Than Water," a vampire book by my first real GF, Carla Jablonski (the first real GF part was like a hundred years ago, the book was recently published).

Heroes:

Misty May and Kerry Walsh, Neal Gaiman, my cat.

My Blog

Starwood and beyond

Some call it stupid, but I call it devoted and intrepid. "It" being packing myself, my girlfriend, my girlfriend's teenaged daughter, and all our stuff in the truck, and driving across the U.S. (a fai...

Missing my show

I sent out my usual e-mails, posts and e-vites to the gig I'm doing with my band tonight. I usually get back two or three e-mails saying "see you there," and several dozen saying "Oh, that's the day I...
