Heatpod is the brain child of Liam Hiatt, a 24yr old progressive rock musician turned electronic and drawing the majority of his inspiration from Space!Music has always been Liam's life. At the tender age of 10 he began writing, playing and recording his own compositions using any instruments, equiptment and gadgets he could get his hands on. Initially picking up the bass guitar, he soon found a neiche behind the drum kit, despite excelling at the guitar, keyboard and piano and at aged 11, formed his first band.Throughout his musical career, Liam has played in many bands ranging from punk, metal and techno, to pop, funk, ambient, trip hop, folk and progressive rock, experiencing such aspects of these as group writing, conducting, recording, touring and session work, all the time picking up new ways to better himself musically and improve on his own personal compositions.Recently, after a gruelling 4yr course at music college, and a lengthy spell teaching the drums at a music school, Liam branched out into the world of electronic music. Harnessing programmes such as Reason, Cubase and Apleton to bring his music a totally new sound under the name of HEATPOD (a name he had used to record many solo compositions under in the past). His first project was that of liquid drum 'n' bass and breakbeat styled mayhem but that slowly gave way to a more chilled, minimal sound....the sound that we know today as Heatpod. It was around this time that Liam first began to become interested in the concepts of Space and Time and as the tempos decreased and the basslines became more psychedelic, he began to call on his fascination with planets, stars and space travel to influence his ever developing sound. Now, no longer having to rely on other band members and being his own boss, it was full steam ahead! He could compose what he liked, whenever he liked! The ideas were coming out thick and fast and all the time new inspiration, whether it came from other music or beyond our atmosphere, was fuelling quality track after quality track. The result of all this creativity was the debut Heatpod album simply entitled "Space Project". Here was a culmination of 12 months worth of work, an ambient journey through the universe in a psychedelic bubble of beautiful, melodic chillout music. The repercussions of the release of Space Project included filmakers approaching Liam with offers of collaberation, record labels offering contracts and 5/5 reviews across the net. - Dean Gaffney, 2007
"What you hear is my artistic interpritation of space. To create this music, I imagined that I was actually in space on some kind of ship or space station looking out, possibly back down at Earth, possibly out into the infinite stars. It's strange that just one or two fictional images in the mind can be the inspiration for so much music! I tried to think of what would be the PERFECT music to listen to orbiting some wierd alien world maybe where the girl with three boobs in Total Recall comes from and where strange space pot grows in the streets of huge ancient cities of inconcievably wonderful civilisations...you never know!! Hehe...anyway, give it a listen, chillout, drift away, enjoy it!!" - Liam Hiatt 2008. Heatpod has just signed a non-exclusive liscensing deal with an indipendant German/Italian record label called Schallzauber Laboratories. Liam's debut album will soon be available on Beatport, itunes and all other good online digital harbours aswell as available for hard copy purchase.
