Most of these things are just dalliances for me. I learn enough to entertain myself, enlighten myself or otherwise suit my purposes and move on to the next subject. Only music has my nearly undivided attention and, consequently, is the only thing I feel I'm TRULY qualified to talk about. I'll make a lot of noise about the other stuff, but music is what I really know. Through music I am able to make valuable statements about all the other things.

There are only two types of music: good or bad, that with soul or that without, honest or fake. Whichever adjectives you prefer to hang on it, in the end it boils down to the same thing. There is beauty and validity in every genre of music, it's really down to the artist and whether or not they are putting across something real. If you are a real music appreciator, then you will be open to anything and will have an informed opinion of what you like and dislike. It's a big mistake for someone to define music as "good" or "bad" according to his or her tastes.
I also find it sad when people use music as an accessory to a contrived identity, like a pocket book or a hairstyle. People get locked into a little box that makes them easily definable and makes it difficult for them to appreciate or even perceive anything that doesn't conform to that narrow construct.
