The Reverend Coyote

"Music for the feet and for the heart"

About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorThe Reverend Coyote formed in Manchester in 2004. The innovative guitar-led sound they began to make was not quite like anything else around, owing as much to Dexy’s and Morricone as to their shared alt. guitar influences. The introduction of trumpet and harmonica elevates the sound into something fresh and vital. Their songs are well-crafted, hook-laden blasts of joy, vitriol, yearning and occasional surrealism. The Reverend Coyote quickly established a reputation as a tight, energetic and exciting live act – a reputation which has not escaped the notice of Manchester’s promoters, who at various points have booked the band to support Clor, Arctic Monkeys and Maximo Park.In late 2004, The Reverend Coyote’s first demo EP was hailed as ‘music for the feet and for the heart…two damn fine songs’ and named demo of the week by City Life magazine.Around this time they were approached for their first live session/interview on BBC Radio Manchester with Michelle Mullane (now of XFM), an experience they were invited back to repeat twice in 2005.The Manchester based producers of Brit gangster film ‘Shut Up and Shoot Me’ heard Bingo Jesus and approached the band to ask if they could use the song on their soundtrack. The band agreed, and the film premiered at Cannes in 2006 with their song featuring during a frenetic and peculiar chase scene…The advent of XFM Manchester saw The Reverend Coyote gain another fan on the airwaves, as Clint Boon picked up on their second demo ‘A House of Cards/Papillon’ early on, giving the lead track regular airplay in 2006 as well as plugging and appearing at gigs. The band was also playlisted on ALL FM through 2006, appearing on the breakfast show to perform live and be interviewed in the early summer. Several Reverend Coyote tracks are now on the station’s permanent playlist.During this summer the band also played their first London gigs, and found they already had a healthy base of fans, thanks in part to their rapidly building Myspace presence. The promoters of their Dublin Castle show were so impressed with the band’s performance that they invited them back to play at the Camden Green Fair festival in Regent’s park a week later – an unforgettable day for the band, as they played in front of around 2,000 people.2007 saw The Reverend Coyote back in the studio to record a new demo – The Seers, backed with a new arrangement of A House of Cards. Manchester Music Online promptly gave the release 4.5 out of 5 and stating that ‘The Reverend Coyote is back with songs more splendid than you'd dare imagine.’Mike Joyce (The Smiths) picked up on The Coyote in June 2007, playing their new tracks on Revolution FM and urging listeners to go and find out more about the band. Other DJs on the station including Cottee, Conrad Murray and Mick Ferry have also played their tracks regularly. The band shares a house in Chorlton, Manchester where they have their own cellar rehearsal space/studio.The Reverend Coyote are currently seeking professional management, with a view to securing a record deal.
