About Me

Up north, up where we lived in canada, there was a wooden manakin who lived on a hill down the street from us. The sun always shone on his house, even during the night time. He would pace back and forth across the second floor--we saw him through the window. he looked very, very lonely. No one knew him.Partially by accident, partially on purpose, once time I got too close to his house. I may have been trying to burn it down. He saw me through the window, and I saw myself in him--very clearly, i saw myself in his blank wooden face. After his house was merely a pile of charred sticks, everyone from our town picked through the rubble, and the children stick-fought with bits of what were either table legs or his arms, I walked alone through the rubble on the west end of his house. I picked up a large screw which I convinced myself had to be one of the ones that had held him together. That night as I walked back and forth across the second floor of our house, I got an idea. I got some towels, and a drill, and I screwed that screw as hard as i could into my shoulder, and to take my mind off the pain, I sang this little song to myself:"This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper"
