Fairly typically of a "school band" we met and acknowledged each other's talent during the first couple of GCSE music lessons (However we dont think of ourselves as a school band - we merely met and formed there.) Due to our school year collectively being split into two halves previously to the beginning of the GCSE's, Chris and Dan, were unaware that Ralph existed. It was a bit of an unexpected collaboration for them. Chris and Ben then asked Ralph to jam after hearing him improvise and a lot of positive chemistry launched. We finally persuaded multi-musical Dan to join and complete us as the front man and bassist. Consequently making us a four piece. There was a lot of energy and enthusiasm during the early days as we experimented by playing a varied range of covers. As a result, it fueled us to compose original material. We feel proud to say that we have been more adventurous with regards to writing songs; ultimately, we ARE heavy but we contrast and compliment the heaviness with melodic and tuneful riffs. Out of frustration with the mobs of relentless, ignorant and untalented, wannabe bands, we felt driven to write heavy but more subtle and dynamic songs. While incorporating other styles of music and rhythm, such as jazz and swing, we feel that our songs have a lot of character and we like to think some are quite funky too. This is based on our energetic crowd response as we feel playing a gig is about entertaining as a show rather than just playing our instruments! 6 months ago we decided to start playing to audiences and wedge ourselves into the Bristol music scene. Since then we've been playing gigs that have gained us a seemingly dedicated bunch of fans! Due to this continuing rise in popularity, we've recently acquired headline positions.
Back in November 2005, we aquired new bassist Andy Sutor to take over from Dan so that he could concentrate more on vocals. Seen as Dan never wanted to play bass and was ready to leave, we took into consideration we vauled Dan too much and added to the line up, making us a 5 piece.
Recently Dan decided to leave the band as he wasn't really enjoying GEM or more specifically singing without playing guitar aswell. He is now going solo. We respect his decision and wish him luck.
We have now obtained Danny Stone as our new vocalist, his debut gig was a complete success and we are now back on track ready to gig and record! Woo!
