The Art of Shawn McDonald:You can check out more of Shawn's art @ http://www.myspace.com/wichitaartslut - Send a request, hit a show, buy something. Support local art and artists! If you would like some good old fashioned free exposure, send me a message! This is a diverse town in a historically significant part of the country. It has a rich native history and many great museums, historical sites, art galleries, and an ever growing subculture / underground scene. Modern art galleries, body modification studios, 'alternative' churches, locations for live music and other various cool local hang-outs have surfaced over the last few years adding to the already rich tapestry of mixed culture represented quietly here in town. My main interests are in finding the underground and bringing it to surface. I hate to see unrealized talent, unappreciated potential, missed opportunities. It really sucks to be sitting at home convinced there's nothing going on and then hear about something really cool after its over. Or to be a band with-out exposure. I'm interested in putting that to rest and maybe giving some of our bored residents... well, a chance to focus on what makes them happy since time is always a factor.Skating, and not at all bad for the flatlands. I've heard interest in a larger park with a more advanced terrain. The First Video starts out a little slow... but worth it.

Music, art and comedy seem to go hand in hand.Rock, Hard Rock, Bluegrass, Country, Rap, Electronic, Reggae, Soul, Ska, Hip Hop the list goes on.... I've heard and seen a little of everything here in town except ads for when and where it's going to happen. We have a symphony hall here, there are lots of bars with live music every weekend. If I don't know you or have you listed, please tell me and you'll be in this column (and I will add your bio and tag a pic to your page, post videos, show dates, etc.) These things do take time, so please be patient.http://www.myspace.com/trendkill_conspiracyLocal band Conflicted - Video below.Local Band: Wings of Lamia (below)The Norway Agenda - Wichita Locals - Playing "Halo and a Gun" at Jeeps Motorcycle ClubThe Norway Agenda - Wichita Locals - Playing "Torched" at Jeeps Motorcycle Club
Many great movies have been shot here, I'm going to check on the ones I know shortly and add them. Send me any you know about, the title, the year it was made, and if you know, what was shot here. If it's a well known movie all I need is the title and any specific scene information.King Kung Fu - I actually have this movie, though I had to buy it online to get it. It's a B-rated slapstick comedy that actually has historical value considering it has the only footage (that I know of) of a ride on the oldest (and therefore scariest) wooden roller coaster in the world. Of course I'm talking about Joyland, which is now shut down now despite the protests of the locals and that one kid who was walking around with a petition. (Anyone know who he was?) There's also footage of Century 2 when it was a fairly new structure, as well as the Coliseum, and several other easily recognizable sites in Wichita. It's not a movie for the serious film critic, but it seems to suit the humor of the town and remains a permanent and much loved testament to boredom and budget restraints as well as an inspiration to local movie makers. The Ice Harvest - From what I've read, this movie was written with the scenery set in Wichita, KS but instead was filmed in Ohio. That's Hollywood logic for you. I haven't seen this movie, but then, I've read the reviews.
Commentary on local TV might be too time consuming. Any links to local blog columns concerning local tv would be appreciated. News station links and all local TV personalities welcome. If you have video of weather, local events, news or something I haven't thought of please contact me, I'd be glad to post them if they are appropriate. Also, youtube channels and myspace channels welcome for adds as favorites and free promotion. This page is not run by or affiliated to anyone involved in Heavy Pork. The above image is borrowed from their Myspace page and we encourage you to add them and support their show. I may be misinformed, but if my memory is correct, Heavy Pork was started by area locals in Wichita on a failing television station and was later optioned by FOX as a late night show that might draw more attention than the typical FOX late night rapid weight loss infomercials. And now Heavy Pork is in it's 9th season, proving them right. Many local Wichitans have been on the show either actively or at events covered by the show. There have been numerous music celebrities and coverage of local bands who caught the eye of the country and became famous.
Many great authors, journalists, and poets have lived here or passed through the area. I know Stephen King stayed in a town near Wichita to write a book... but where? Anyone you can think of would be appreciated. If you are a local journalist, poet, publication or author, send an add request.
It takes REAL strength to put the essence of your character before your community in lyric, sound, or physical media. The beautiful thing about heroes, is that they cannot tell you that they are your hero. Hero is such a cliche word, and in this case it doesn't matter who my heroes are. More importantly, who are your local heroes and what have they inspired from you?
