Born in Dayton, Ohio the oldest of three children, Gia began her musical foundation singing in the Honors Choir and performed her first trio at 7 years old. Strengthening her ability, she began playing the alto saxophone and the hand bells at 8 years old. She also performed with The Alvin and Ailey Dance Company and danced in several talent shows.
Although beginning playing instruments, singing and dancing, she took an interest in rap at the tender age of 9. "I began writing down the lyrics to all my favorite songs. By the time I wrote down the lyrics word for word, I would have the song memorized. I know it's bad, but I used to know all the words to Eazy E's 'Eazy Duz It' and Ice Cube's 'Amerikkka's Most Wanted," she giggles. Gia recalls writing her first original song to a Tupac "Me Against the World" instrumental.
"I don't remember what song it was. All I remember is my mother and aunt hearing the recording on the tape and being shocked and appalled from the words that were coming out of my mouth," she laughs. "They said it was very good, but they never wanted to hear another rap again. So from that point on, I kept it a secret. My family always thought I was weird. I would close myself in my room all day after school and write songs to beats from my tapes or songs I heard on the radio, matching up the length of their chorus' and verses with mine. I would write poetry, R&B and Pop songs as well," crediting Prince to hood legends and everything in between as her influences.She is the missing puzzle piece to the tracks. Her cool, melodic, polished flows interlock within the grooves of the music to create and complete an enjoyable piece of art. Gia Jai is what the industry is lacking. Exemplifying amazing versatility, graceful flow, and all the trimmings, Gia Jai is the Rolls Royce of rap.
