Analogue Girl in a DIGITAL world~ E. Badu

About Me

20 year old student/poet/writer/pseudo-feminist/slave to the service industry.
I study English and Anthropology at Howard University.
I'm the type of girl with no TV and no radio who is that much happier without those items that feed into the negative perceptions of different races, genders and classes.
Rarely will you see me in a club unless an incredible artist is performing (a la The Roots or Bilal per say)
Currently searching for a record player in good condition so I can start collecting vinyl.
I have started writing 24 different books but I'm really bad about finishing what I start.
Give me the rest of the summer and maybe a little of the fall and hopefully I'll start pushing to have something PUBLISHED
I have an incense habit that needs to stop. I seriously spend too much money on incense and burn oils.
Hopefully one day my name will be in the dim lights of underground stardom hahaha.
Nina Simone and Erykah Badu are two artists who have ABSOLUTELY inspired me as a woman and appeal to my inner feminist.
Get at me if you are chill and don't mind kicking it with a girl that'll take Egyptian Musk over designer perfumes and enjoys smart ass comments and conversation
Lipstick Activist (Balance in Threes)
I.
Insincerely driven
Like raindrops from Heaven
she’s missing
The points and prospects of her
Recollect-
Ion
Igniting flames of youth
And passion to prove
And rebel against the statutes--
That she alludes to
Worshipping the calf
While preaching gospels.
II.
Naïve but known
For complementary colloquialisms
And condescending stances
On new age Colonialism
The En Vogue Activist
Toting Louis Vuitton picket signs
And Prada pin ups
Illustrating the dangers of Capitalism
While selling her soul to masses
Paris Hilton masking
In wrap skirts with L’Oreal make up
Faking her redemptive strategy
But all the while
Maintaining her Clarity
III.
Fraudulent?
Not so much
Confused?
To a certain touch
And told that her messages aren’t meaning such
Levels
Of
Depth
And even in death of self
She awakens herself
And takes Her mixed messages
And throws them in Her gucci bag
And walks to the strike line
Attempting to find Her balance
Between modern day Woman with indecision
And Champion of Causes she clings
To her surface morals
But Existential Causes
And She finds Her balance
When the rain falls.
