Band Website: myspace.com/tenimusic
Band Members: Just me and a big band. I'm the band-leader. King on bass, Suga on drums, Saint Jones on guitar, Oscar on guitar, Leo on percussion and Black Jesus ..board....... The music you hear here is an unmixed demo made in my friend Pere's home studio in Lagos seven years ago when I was 21. Produced by Teni. Co-produced by Pere C. It's meant to be made with live instruments, just haven't got round to it yet, this is a sketch, so you get the picture. New songs on the way! (I kinda gave up music for a while!)
Influences: God, Jesus Christ, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Segun Bucknor, Jimmy Cliff, Orlando Julius, Marvin Gaye, Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Donny Hathaway, Dizzy Gillepsie, Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Langston Hughes, Sarah Vaughan, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Peter Tosh, The Fugees, Santana, Desmond Dekker, Josephine Baker, Lena Horne, Sonia Spence, Flora Purim, The Wu Tang Clan, Martha and the Vandellas, Carole King, Roberta Flack, D’Angelo, The Doors, Blondie, Marilyn Monroe, Cleopatra, Fela’s Queens, Nefertiti, Boudica, Osun, Isis, Queen Amina, Makeda Queen of Sheba, Lenny Kravitz, Niki Giovanni, Jim Morrison, Miriam Makeba, Annie Lennox, Black Uhuru, Sade Adu, The Wailers, Sting, Lisa Bonet, The I-Threes, Meshell Ndegeocello, Amel Larrieux, Robert Johnson, Che Guevara, Nelson Mandela, Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Wole Soyinka, Pablo Neruda, Rumi, Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, Peggy Lee, Toni Morrison, Ben Okri, Zora Neale Hurston, Chinua Achebe, John Lee Hooker, Betty Davis, Marianne Faithfull, T-Rex, Dusty Springfield, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Grace Jones, Kate Bush, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Millie Jackson, WAR, Roy Ayers, Prince, The Roots, Rick James, Ike and Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu, Etta James, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, David Bowie, Gil Scott Heron, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Ethiopian jazz, Afro-beat, Afro-Rock, Afro-Soul, Celtic, Indian and Middle-eastern music.
