@ THE MAD FROGSTERNWHEEL, RESPECTFULLY SNEAKY MAY 10th, Saturday @ The Mad Frog Eclipse is a band that breaks boundaries. Formed out of members of other bands the ensemble features some of the most talented young working musicians in Ohio. Their sound combines elements of rock, funk, latin, hip-hop and jazz to create a unique sound that is sure to get the party started. All of the band members are trained musicians with bachelor degrees in music, from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, NKU, and OU respectively. Brian Batchelor-Glader sought to form a new jam-band that would rehearse regularly and develop a tight sound that would be fun to listen to.
For Chris Rook (vocals, guitar), Todd Chumbley (drums), and Jon Parnell (lead guitar), Langus started out only as a slang word for Marijuana! After high school the three guys set out to find the right bass player to complete the band. After finding one in Brian Bruemmer, they began to put the image and sound to the name, Langus. In the fall of 2004, they hit the studio and began recording their first ep, "Pass the Time". The ep was released in January 2005 to a packed house of 300+ people. Eighty percent of the people that night walked out with an album in hand.Since the release, tracks of the ep have been included on several compilation discs, including the WEBN Budweiser true music compilation disc. Their track "Pass the Time", was chosen to be played by Cincinnati's own radio station, WEBN. "Pass the Time" is still to this day being played on their radio station. In the spring of 2005 after months of pressing their ep, some other shocking news hit the band. Brian Bruemmer (bass), decided that it was his time to step down and chase other ambitions in his life. Langus knew that it would be extremely hard to try and replace their long time brother. But light did hit their tunnel. After a couple of months trying out several bass players, they managed to stumble upon their match, a successful artist by the name of Ben Petry. Ben immediately fit the mold. After 2 weeks of learning the music and the flow in which everyone would now have to adapt to, Langus was right back on the stage. The band has now had the privilege of being the opening act for many regional and national acts such as: Breaking Benjamin, Jet, Hinder, Blessid Union of Souls, Shinedown, Beyond the Fall, Freekbass, July for Kings, Rock n Roll Soldiers and more...Finally after facing great trauma like the loss of Chris' parents in the summer of 2006, the band is following up strong through the struggles with their debut album "Running In Place". The album is a dedication to the struggles faced and the rough road they have traveled. With its debut on April 19th, 2008, now more than ever, the band is totally focused and back in the studio working on their next record.
It is rare for Bands to have such control, understanding, and objectivity as they create and produce their music. Young, freakishly mature, and wise beyond their years, Papadosio has just released a sophisticated work of art. This skillfully orchestrated jamtronic record refreshes, rearranges and gracefully does what is impossible for most bands. And that's why Papadosio's self titled release is happening in a big way.The record moves with pushing and pulling arrangements which blend its electronic soundscapes that bloom into guitars and rock and roll and back again. Downtempos and arrpegiations emerge within each other, which wrap and twist into the heights of the record. Layers of depth and space are constant throughout. Front to back and between tracks, every seam is manicured and treated with sonic brilliance. The result is a slick integration of electronic and organic textures that blend and blur with precission and feeling. This release just goes to show that the forward thinking rock band has very few limits to their sonic desires. With taste, patience, and grace, this record is a showcase of Papadosio's hip sensibility.adam j fox artist/producer, Universal Studios
