My Interests

I am interested in rockabilly & soul music, old monster movies, writing, painting, performing & various other forms of expression.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone interested in hearing my band. Hopefully someone who would like to hire us or buy a CD. I'd also like to meet people involved in filmmaking. Please contact me if you are interested in appearing in "Gone The Way Of Flesh II: Fresh Bloody Flesh"!!!

Music:

My original love of music starts with classic rock'n'roll which I was exposed to very early in my life. My favorite musicians have always been Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & countless others from that original era.As a child I also loved Bruce Springsteen because he brought back to life what I considered to be true rock'n'roll. As a teen I was obsessed with Jim Morrison & the Doors. My love of poetry drew me to Morrison's lyrics & then Bob Dylan, Lou Reed & the Velvet Underground.I soon found myself with a copy of the complete Robert Johnson recordings. This sent me on a great study of the legendary blues men. Muddy Waters, Son House, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker & many others.I became interested in 60s soul music, mainly from Memphis. My favorite of these singers is Joe Tex. I also love James Brown, Solomon Burke, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Garnet Mimms, Eddie Floyd, Don Covay, William Bell,O.V. Wright, Sam & Dave, Dan Penn & other great soul singers.I also studied early gospel music where true rock'n'roll & rhythm & blues comes from. I like the 5 Blind Boys of Alabama, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, The Golden Gate Quartet, Mahalia Jackson & other gospel singers.I like old country music. I consider Hank Williams to possibly be the greatest American songwriter to ever live. I like Johnny Cash, Wynn Stewart, Lefty Frizell, Charlie Rich, Hank Snow, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings & other outlaws.I have always loved early punk music. One of my all-time favorite bands is The Misfits. I think their style & songs are some of the greatest things to ever happen to rock'n'roll. I also like Danzig's solo material. I think Glenn Danzig's poetry of lyrics & voice cannot even be compared to by anyone else in the genres he dominates. I like The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Ian Dury, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag & others.I also like strange & eccentric singers & garage rockers like Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs, Esquerita, Manfred Mann, The Standells, 13th Floor Elevators, Link Wray & Dick Dale.My newest favorite right now is Hasil Adkins. I haven't enjoyed any music like I do his in a long time.

Movies:

My original love of movies goes back to the original monster movies I saw as a child. "Dracula", "Frankenstein", "The Wolfman", "The Mummy". All those old Universal monster pictures. I later became interested in 60's & 70's exploitation gore movies. My all-time favorite filmmaker is Herschell Gordon Lewis who made classics like "Blood Feast", "Gore Gore Girls", "2000 Maniacs", "A Taste Of Blood", "She-Devils On Wheels" & "Something Weird". His films made me want to become a filmmaker. I absolutely love the company "Something Weird Video" who puts out other great exploitation classics like "Bad Girls Go To Hell", "Olga's House Of Shame", "Basket Case", "The Beast Who Killed Women", "Night Of The Bloody Apes" & other great titles. I have always been a big fan of "Night Of The Living Dead" having met some of the stars & seeing it on a big screen as a small child. I also adore the films of John Waters. "Pink Flamingos", "Female Trouble", "Multiple Maniacs" & "Desperate Living" have forever changed the way I view cinema.

Television:

I am not really a big fan of TV. I find most sitcoms to be a big waste of time, but I do like the Simpsons & South Park. I always loved the Jerry Springer Show because of it's exploitative quality. I love true crime shows & the Discovery Channel.

Books:

My favorite book will always be "A Season In Hell" by Arthur Rimbaud. I cannot ever imagine the words of a book jumping off the pages & touching me as much as that book did. I collect every translation of Rimbaud's writing that I can find. To me, he is the greatest. I love all the beat writers like William S. Burroughs, Kerouac, Ginsberg & others. Their writing has influenced my life forever. I love William Blake's poetry & artwork. My favorite philosopher is Nietzsche. I have studied his books for many years. I am fascinated by his belief in the"Superman". I have lived my life by much of his philosophy. I am very interested in Nero, my favorite historical figure & I love the writings about him by Tacitus & Suetonius. I love the writing style of Iceburg Slim who wrote such classics as "Pimp" & "Air-Tight Willie & Me". My favorite contemporary music biographer is Peter Guralnick who wrote "Last Train To Memphis" about Elvis & "Sweet Soul Music" about 60's soul which I carried around like a bible for about 2 years. I love to read biographies about musicians & actors I like, especially if it reveals their dark side. I love true crime books about serial killers & unsolved murders.

Heroes:

Elvis Presley, Bruce Springsteen, Jim Morrison, Gene Vincent, Joe Tex, Herschell Gordon Lewis, John Waters, Andrew Dice Clay, Anton Lavey, Batman, Nero
