About Me

s@d bastard is no more for now... please support our good friend Ric Veda .Story:Zach and Terence met in early 2004 after Terence responded to an ad on the wall of the lobby of the building they both lived in ( 2892 w7th street ). This ad, which was more like a plea to find someone to make music with, was a page long and intrigued Terence merely by the amount of time it must have taken whoever wrote it to do so. They got along famously and it wasn't long before they started spending almost everyday hanging out. Zach would always be playing his guitar (a fender stratocaster ) through his amp ( fender reverb ) while Terence would do his usual hollering and waver between keyboards, guitars, tambourines, hand drums, etc. and together they would play anything from their own sketches to inebriated covers (later on Cover Me album) as anything was fair game in this creative period. It wasn't until Terence brought out his harmonium one day that Zach felt there really was something there…to backtrack, Terence had studied Indian spirituality and actually sang Sanskrit songs/chants with different groups ( temple bhajan band , among others), yet always remained detached from any of those groups. During this period, Terence became acquainted with many indian instruments, but the one that stuck the most was the harmonium (With which he played, and continues to play with, as Ric Veda ). And while playing his songs and sing/chanting with his harmonium, Terence always hoped to find a guitarist with whom to play with.So this had come to pass; the two played together (now as a harmonium/guitar duet) whenever they could amidst Zach’s screenwriting and Terence’s filmmaking. And though they came up with most of their material during this time ( ghost songs , redshift , gloaming empire ) they both thought about running into a drummer, or rather a musician that played drums, a percussionist perhaps. Enter j stare. Again in the lobby of 2892 w7th, Zach and Terence met j stare as he was moving and carrying his talking drum. He certainly fit the part, and when he reiterated without provocation what Zach and Terence had said they wanted in a drummer, he was definitely in.The first rehearsal they had together (which was in Zach’s basement apartment, as all rehearsals were) the chemistry was definitely there. After about an hour of playing, they packed up their gear in Terence’s car and drove to find a place to play. They finally settled on Molly Malone's in the fairfax district. They signed up for the open mic, but still needed a name. This is when two girls came up to the three and invited them (which two guys of the three they invited is still a mystery) to go see the movie spiderman two. When the guys invited them in return to hear them play in molly malone's, they declined saying it was "sad bastard night." the girls left, revealing a statue of Ganesh (indian god of overcoming obstacles) in a store window behind them. j stare was the one who suggested that it would be their name (sad bastard, not Ganesh); So they played as sad bastard.Needless to say, the show was a hit…especially considering the three had been a group for all of three hours, and that even the bartenders applauded (and we all know they don't have to do that). So the three with spirits high continued playing as s@d bastard. The group was met with unprecended aclaim, as with their honesty, those who came to see them play were always pleased, surprised and moved. As fate would have it, there came a day when the three split indefinitely and pursued other projects. Their exclusive intimate last show was captured for posterity, along with a lost interview and plenty of material left over from the days when Zach and Terence would play in the basement of 2892.antedated publications ©2004visit www.soundclick.com/sadbastard for more songs.
