About Me

My name is Michael Kirchoff and I'm a California native, living and working in Los Angeles. I have also spent part of my life in Santa Barbara and San Francisco, living, working, and learning about art and photography. I have been working as a photographer for twenty years, both in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and have been a Board Member of the APA Los Angeles Chapter since 2006. My love for travel comes from a desire to learn and experience the life and culture of other people from around the block, as well as around the globe. Capturing this in a still image is what I find most exciting and challenging. I photograph using many different cameras and film (yes, even now), finding it more difficult to confine myself to only one favorite. I’m the guy at the airport having all my bags rifled through by confused security personnel, unable to comprehend why anyone would carry all this stuff. I’ll use everything from a clunky toy camera to a fully digital one, seeing each one as a tool meant for a specific use. You can view my website at http://www.michaelkirchoff.com and see some of my short travel videos at http://youtube.com/user/krazee222.This MySpace page will mainly be used to show some other work that is not on my website. Mainly new stuff or things that are a bit different or may not be appropriate for the main site. Go to the "View my Pics" section to see some of my work as well as personal stuff. Thanks for checking it out by the way, and any comments are most certainly welcome!

My Interests

Photography (of course), music, mountain biking, hiking, exploring places I probably shouldn't go.

I'd like to meet:

Okay, besides photography, I'm a huge music fan, so there are a lot of music artists I would like to meet, as well as photographers. So photo-wise: Michael Kenna, Henri-Cartier Bresson, Matt Mahurin, and Jerry Uelsmann. Musicians: Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Richard Wright, Neil Young, Paul McCartney, Lemmy Kilmister, Pepper Kennan, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, David Bowie, Angus Young, Brian Johnson. Probably more, just can't think of them at the moment...

Music:

This is crazy, I'm not sure I can list it all...but here's a decent partial list: Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Motorhead, ELO, David Bowie, Tool, A Perfect Circle, The Doors, Corrosion of Conformity, Down, Cake, Wolfmother, Curtis Mayfield, Foo Fighters, Days of the New, Marvin Gaye, Deep Purple, X, Primus, Public Enemy, Queen, Vic Damone, Thin Lizzy, Iggy Pop, John Hiatt, Parliament, UFO, Richard Thompson, Neil Diamond (thanks Mom!), Van Halen, Robbie Robertson, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Al Green, Nerf Herder, Neil Young, Megadeth, Alice In Chains, Elvis Presley (thanks Mom!), Rage Against The Machine, DMX, Louis Prima, Suicidal Tendencies, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Air, Judas Priest, The Ramones, John Lee Hooker, Anthrax, The Isley Brothers, George Thorogood, Herbie Hancock, Jethro Tull, John Coltrane, Heart, Frank Sinatra, Faith No More, Etta James, Dio, Rainbow, Dire Straits, Dick Dale, Danzig, The Misfits, Helloween, Buddy Guy, Blue Oyster Cult, The Eagles, Rollins Band, ZZ Top, The Who, The O'Jays, W.A.S.P., Social Distortion, Mel Torme, Slayer, Peter Gabriel, Fleetwood Mac, Richard Cheese, Pelican, Isis, Our Lady Peace, James Brown, Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Muddy Waters, Devo, Fear, Keb' Mo', Little Richard, Lou Reed, Groove Armada, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Krokus, Johnny Cash, Infectious Grooves, Elton John, Robin Trower, The Cult, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Stevie Wonder, Rare Earth, Soundgarden, The Butthole Surfers, Booker T. & The MG's, The Beastie Boys, The Beach Boys, Barry White, Ottmar Liebert, Ministry, 311, Fishbone, LL Cool J, Bob Marley, Queensryche, Cheap Trick, Blondie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marillion, The Pretenders, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Temptations, Traffic, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Yes, Godsmack, Alice Cooper, The Allman Brothers, ABBA, The Cars,......okay, you get the idea...

Movies:

Bridge On The River Kwai, Anything directed by Terry Gilliam, anything directed by Ridley Scott.

Television:

Most of it blows, but HBO pretty much has it right...Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, my new favorite is Flight Of The Concordes. I like the Discovery Channel and the National Geographic Channel...Myth Busters and Ghost Hunters are cool. Love CSI, but kinda burned out on it right now. The Amazing Race is the only "reality" show that's worth anything...where do I sign up???

Books:

Growing up I read a lot of Michael Moorcock sci-fi/fantasy books like "Warhound and the World's Pain" and the Elric of Melnibone series. Piers Anthony "On A Pale Horse", "Inferno" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment." Also, lots of books about bands and musicians like, "Get In The Van" by Henry Rollins, and "Hammer Of The Gods" by Stephan Davis, about Led Zeppelin. Also, Frank Zappa's autobiography is a pretty good read, as is "Radio Waves", by Jim Ladd.

Heroes:

My father and Peter the Great are pretty much it. I don't need much more than that...very tough shoes to fill...
