About Me

Vian(Andrew Kim) came to U.S. to study Jazz at Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1998 after he majored philosophy at Korea University. He had earned scholarship during four entire years at Berklee and developed his musical talent through studying and playing with Joanne Brackeen, Hal Crook, George Garzone, Joe Lovano and Danilo Perez etc. He had a lot of performing experiences with different musicians and was complimented for his successful performance with all of his original compositions at Berklee Performance Center in 2003. He has played in Boston and New York area such as Ryles Jazz Club, Zeitgeist Club, Stalla, Greenwich Village Bistro, El Taller Latino Americano, Korean Cultural Service in New York and Myers Hall etc as a band leader and a pianist of world-jazz group, “Interoceanico.” He also performed his own composition called “The Piece of Peace” with Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra in 2004. In 2005, he had Japan tour concerts in Osaka, Kobe, and Kyoto. Also, he had concerts at major jazz clubs in Seoul such as Evans, Chunnyundongando, All that Jazz, and Once in a Blue Moon. Joanne Brackeen, a world renowned pianist, mentioned, “Vian is very talented and has special musical abilities. His music is very sensitive, pretty and musical. It presents a total pleasure to listen to the audience.” In 2006 he finished his Master of Jazz Performance degree at Manhattan School of Music and his first album, “Twenty +” was released on the SONY&BMG label. Since then he has taught jazz at colleges and performed actively with great musicians in Korea.
