Portland OR. multimedia artist- yes it rains here

About Me

Hmm, I'm a 50-something, part time Multimedia Artist , Textile Art Goddess and full time health care worker. I actually love doing both art and health care. I live on the edge of Portland Metro in a burb called Clackamas.
I am have 3 adult children that I gave birth to who call me mom. I also am most fortunate to have one wonderful young man named Brian in my life, (my daughter Ramie's SO). He has stuck with Ramie...loved her, and cared for her through thick and thin (and her MS diagnosis). He calls me mom too and he cares for me and looks after me better than some of my own children. They all tolerate me and are still struggling to raise me to be a responsible adult. I also have one grandson (who I love dearly), and he exists mostly because my youngest daughter never did respond to my threats about no one making me a grandparent till I said I was ready to be one. My son also ignored this rule and on Jan5th 2007 he and his SO Karyn made me a grandmother for a second time, to a beautiful little girl named Maddie.
I also had a 16+ year old dog named Sheba, (a chow/shepard mix who went to doggy heaven on Oct 8th, 2006), and now, with Sheba gone, my main 4-legged companions are 4 Manx-mix cats who are certified feline terrorists that are probably on the Homeland Security "watch list"....if they aren't they should be.
I paint, I create art quilts, wearable art and wild art dolls, I sculpt, I do mosaics and I tinker with creating new things using new & recycled materials. I have 3 serious addictions: garage sales, fabric stores and art stores. To the best of my knowledge there is no 12-step program for any of them. I am an occasional smoker, a social drinker, & I love to cook.
I am outspoken and pleasantly eclectic ( or so my friends tell me), I am also free spirited, and passionate about life. My BIG dream is to create an owner-built alternatively constructed house before I check out. If you need to know more about me ...ask

My Interests

Art of all types, world music, art quilting, fiber art, acylic painting, sculpting, multi-media art, outsider art, cooking, owner-built alternative housing, gardening, herbal medicine.

I'd like to meet:

Other artists, maybe some fellow healthcare workers, any people with a passion for life. I tend to really like surrounding myself with eclectic people....I'd also like to meet others interested in joining forces to form an art colony

Music:

I like world music like Jessie Cook, Amir Beso, Rusted Root, fem artists like Jan Arden, Terra Naomi and Ani... I also like mellow stuff with a slight bite to it on occasion.

Movies:

I love movies like Big Fish, Defending Your Life, & Enemy Of The State. I also like older movies like Ma & Pa Kettle, and the old Topper movies....simple humor.

Television:

I admit it, I am a food channel and HGTV addict. (It's an illness). I love the shows: Simply Quilts, Monk, Dead Zone, House and I also like the new show "My Name Is Earl", that's pretty funny stuff. Other than that, it's PBS, OPB, and Discovery channel viewing for me most of the time. I do also watch Everyone Loves Raymond and CSI on occassion. "Reality" TV makes me gag.

Books:

I have an extensive collection of how-to books on different types of art, (quilting, painting, sculpting, metal, enameling, batik, fabric painting, book making, mold-making, & etc). Everything interests me, I want to try it all. I also have a rather large collection of books on alternative house building...cordwood, cob, recycled materials, earthbag building. I'd like to sculpt a house some day in a rural setting...maybe join with others to form an artist colony. I am not much of a fiction reader, but I do read fiction sometimes during the cold, wet winter when I run out of other things to do. I also love reading and listening to audio books by Pema Chodron...she is an amazing woman!

Heroes:

My mom, ( now deceased), she never said a bad word about anyone and cared deeply about everyone around her. Most importantly, she accepted me as I was growing up.... and I'm fairly certain that was not always an easy thing to do.

The general public opinion is...

when I am old enough to need senior care, I am going to quite a handful. For some reason that opinion of me makes me all happy inside. I have heard this more than once, I hope everyone is right. I wan...

How I became this version of "me"

My life seems to revolve around overcoming clutter & chaos, I guess that's why being drawn to the kind of art I do was a natural outcome. I'm a self imposed, semi-reformed packrat. I keep things l...
