The New Lev Yashin 2003 - 2005 RIP

About Me

Alright. On Sunday 22nd May 2005 we split up for the second and final time. This is our old myspace shpeel for those who still care:
We're The New Lev Yashin. We are from Eston, Dormanstown, Guisborough and Morton Carr Crossing, or more simply, Teesside. We play up-beat, intense and energetic guitar driven melodic punk rock music. We've been compared to many bands such as Husker Du, Hundred Reasons, Braid, Quicksand, Samiam, And None Of Them Knew They Were Robots, Jawbox, Bluetip, Gameface, At The Drive In and many more. But we don't think we really sound like any of them.
We formed in April 2003 and we've had a variety of line up changes since then, but we won't bore you with the details of all of that nonsense. In July 2003, we spent a day in Mirage Studios in Marske recording the first 6 songs we ever wrote as a band. Five of these recordings were then released by Toddler Records (My Favourite Co Pilot, Mavis, The Hitchers etc) in January 2004 as our debut EP. The EP got some lovely reviews as well as airplay as far afield as Spain and "My Favourite" off the EP appeared on a cover-mount CD of Big Cheese Magazine.
Steve Lamacq recently played us on BBC Radio 1. Which was nice of him. Word on the street is that we're the first band named after a Russian goalkeeper to be played on Radio 1. Have that.
We have been lucky enough to play with some proper keen bands including The Futureheads, Biffy Clyro, Sikth, Send More Paramedics, RX Bandits, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Volcano I'm Still Excited, Pink Grease, Aconite Thrill, Dugong, Eastern Lane, D-Rail, thisGIRL, The Golden Virgins, This Aint Vegas, The Dauntless Elite, The Fight, Fig 4.0, Favez, Vanilla Pod, Kevin Devine, Desa, The Hitchers, Nathaniel Green, Written From Negative, The Snowfall Report, Two Day Late, Kelly 8, Minority Blues Band, Stories and Comets and Day Of The Fight, to name but a few.
We were runners up in the 2004 Open Season Punk Rock Football Tournament and Jamie was the top scorer in the whole thing with 18 goals in 5 games.
You can hear some old MP3s on our purevolume page .
