Livingroom Johnston

Livingroom Johnston began his career as a renaissance man at the age of 14. His dedication to skateboarding earned him sponsorships by SHUT Skates, Spitfire Wheels, Venture Trucks and Skate NYC skateboard and accessory shop. In 1991 he graced the cover of Transworld Skateboard magazine. His proficiency with the written word also veered at that time, with the publishing of several poems alongside a ten-page interview with Keith Huffnagel in TWS. Johnston then moved on to participate in the flourishing NYC Poetry scene using the name “Mister Nine Seven.” He began performing with many successful artists. In the midst of a decade of performance, Johnston began writing prose fiction. In 2005 he invented a new style of prose fiction, a comical collection of five neat and pocket-sized novels which he handmade and sold out of a briefcase. This led to an avalanche of opportunities, including a column with Mass Appeal magazine. His introduction to Mass Appeal began with a six-page cover story, featuring Johnston as subject and writer. He has since been interviewed in Complex, Trace, YRB and a multitude of other magazines. Johnston also began painting with acrylic on canvas while hustling the pocket- sized novellas. On July 8, 2006 Johnston held a paint show/book signing at the Halcyon record shop/gallery in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Over three hundred people attended. This led to a show in the Chelsea area of Manhattan in August 2006 with Tanqueray Gin Company. In May 2007, Livingoom Johnston and Sacha Jenkins had a very successful show at the EYE JAMMIE Gallery in Chelsea. As a result of this exposure a film producer optioned the rights to the hand made novellas, scheduled to begin production in summer 2008. Snoop Dogg has also expressed interest in working with Johnston in 2008. Livingroom Johnston is currently working on his seventh novel, to be published 2008.
