Born and raised in Fort Greene projects, Brooklyn New York. music and martial arts have always been a major part of my life.I started training martial arts in the early 1970's,my journey took me through a succession of martial arts instructors and styles(hung gar, fu jaw pai, 52 blocks, 7star praying mantis, judo, karate, ninjitsu, tai chi chuan, kick boxing, modified wing chun, and western boxing.) but I found the system that I have called home since I was 12 years old. "CHEUNG'S TRADITIONAL WING CHUN". as a student of master Phillip Redmond since 1979, I was the assistant instructor of his kung fu school in the heart of New Yorks legendery china town from 1983-1989. teaching the beginner to intermediate classes.(while I was being taught privately by master Redmond.) until he left to teach wing chun at yale university. at 12 years old master Redmond entered me into full contact karate tournaments in the adult black belt divisions. (he lied about my age)lol. but thanks to the reflexes and training I recieved, my fights were always in my favor.in 1983,I had the honor of meeting grandmaster William Cheung. I've attended, and even assisted in many of his seminars covering; cheungs meridian therapy(acu-pressure)dim mak (the delayed death touch), chi sao,and combat techniques against multiple attackers, weapon retention, and counters for different fighting styles including grappling and western boxing. I have done security for celebrities for over 15 years. I was also Heather Hunters personal security for over a decade. but during this time I havent forgotten about my musical roots. Because my aunt had a number 1 hit record in the early 80's(shannon/let the music play) I was able to get into the club music scene, also at an early age. I became very close to some of the hottest producers/DJ's/and recording artists of that era. and it was'nt long before I had gotten my 1st record deal. with the help of people like Arthur Baker/Brenda k Starr/little louie vega/la india/the latin rascals/TK Rodriques/George Mauro and too many other people to name, I was lucky enough to make records for a while. I even had the honor of having la India(and her sister cookie) sing background vocals on one of my 1st records "love is blind" on criminal records. one of my 1st appearances on a record was as a keyboard player on TKA's "come get my love" on tommyboy records. I then got to repay the favor to La India by singing with her on her 1st album, on a song called "right from the start" produced by "mantronik".and going on her 1st tour with her (Warner bros./Reprise records). most of the music that I've done never hit it too big, but it was a great journey for a poor kid from brooklyn. I did a few house records,("It's over for you" on atreus records)wrote a few songs for friends for a while,(I was the co-writer for most of the songs that Heather Hunter recorded on Island records and on tommyboy records)the last record that I recorded was "Weed Life" the single from the "Big Blunts vol.3" album. also on tommyboy records 1996. dedicated to the legalization of medical marijuana. since then I have renewed my focus on teaching and training martial arts. right now I am a level 10 gold sash instructor for the World Wing Chun Kung Fu Association,and proud to have been the first African American Chief Instructor at the world headquarters located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. and I am training for my Red Sash masters degree in Cheung's Traditional Wing Chun, directly under the Grandmaster of the system;William Cheung.GO TO "MY VIDEOS" TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ME.
