Maybe The Welders

Coming out of hibernation and groggy...for ROCK!

About Me

Maybe the Welders --It all started with a djimbe lesson. Perennial ne’er do well Dan Mitchell and suave Brazillian hair stylist Pitti had the weekends off from their restaurant jobs and were looking for something to do. The djimbe lasted for one lesson but the duo were determined to do something with their musical ambitions. Dan already played guitar and Pitti had the burning desire to get behind a drum kit. Thus a rock band was formed. They started rehearsals in the basement of Pitti’s hair studio in New York’s East Village. With no songs and no real clue of what they were doing it would take fellow restaurant employee and budding rock star Greg Campbell to whip them into shape. Greg wrote songs at a rapid pace and Dan and Pitti picked them up as fast as he could lay them down. They were making progress but still something was missing..“we knew we wanted Declan from the first time we jammed,” confided Pitti. Declan Collins , an Irish - born songsmith with an ear for melody and his head firmly on his shoulders was indeed an ideal fit. He filled out the sound, brought years of experience wrote melodic catchy songs that complimented Greg’s compositions perfectly. He also knew the band needed to be on a stage where they could really find themselves and their sound.Declan decided that if they were to play anywhere then legendary club CBGB’s would be the place. With a rough demo in hand and the new name Maybe the Welders, he booked the band on a cold Monday night in November 2005. Most of the Welders were under the weather but Greg was sick as a dog..sore throat..high temperature..not well at all. And so it was with whiskey and honey in one hand and guitar in the other Greg took the stage and took over CBGB’s. Declan held the melody down with Pitti keeping the driving solid beat he’s become known for while Dan ripped out some new riffs from his guitar. They found their sound as the crowd heard the essence of the Clash, Talking Heads, Blur and Bowie. The band would follow up their debut performance with gigs at the Continental, Siberia, Sin-E, R Bar as well as a residency at Dillons in 2006 where rock fan and blogger Charlotte Deaver commented that “ Greg’s style sounds a little like a cross between David Byrne (Talking Heads) and Eddie Argos ( Art Brut). Declan is a little more subdued focusing more on the meat of the song’s chords and melody while Pitti on drums is both presise and fiery. He ignites the band with solid beats that do their job of glueing (welding?) the rythythm section together”. By the summer of that year they recorded their self produced debut album featuring the songs “Enough”, “Old Way”, “What She’s Living For” and “Last of the Old Romantics”. Maybe the Welders were fast becoming the quintessential New York rock band with a sound and aesthetic that can be seen as the next chapter in the great history of New York rock’n’roll. In 2007 the band toured New England where Boston rock promoter and critic Martin Doyle proclaimed Maybe the Welders “the single greatest modern pub rock band in the world!!” The band continued to write and play throughout the year while along the way welcoming a new member - multi instrumentalist Bruno Tavares on bass guitar..With this new addition the band will be recording soon and will be releasing their new singles on their website. The band will also be travelling to Rio de Janeiro in summer 2008 as well as playing all over the NY metro area and the Northeast USA. Come to one of their shows to see what all the fuss is about.... alt="Free Myspace Backgrounds" style="position:absolute; left:0px; top: 0px;" border="0"
