Reflecting The Light

About Me

Crescent Moon Music is a company that was set up to show the beautiful side of Islam. All of the artists are talented musicians but are also Muslims. They enjoy talking about the deen and believe that the arts is probably the most powerful way to talk to the youth.
The main aim of the company is to bring good music to the listener. The company also wants to give dawah to non-Muslims and to show them that not all Muslims are terrorists.
Crescent Moon Music are always looking for new talent for their growing stable of artists, so if you think you got what it takes then do get in contact with us. You can e-mail directlty at: [email protected]. Thank you.
Mecca2Medina are arguably the foremost Islamic hip hop group. “When we started we did not know of another group of sunni Muslims doing music. We knew of Nation of Islam rappers but not sunni Muslims. In those days Islamic hip hop was looked down on and disrespected. People used to come up to us and say what we were doing was haram”.
M2M have been a group for about twelve years now. The group was formed in 1996 by Rakin, who was advised to do so by his Sheikh. Before that Rakin was part of a UK group called Cash Crew, they were one of the most successful groups in the UK scene. He left this group to focus more on his Islamic studies and this is when Sheikh Abu Bakr stated that he should form a group that would focus 100% on the deen.
M2M have also been promoted on all of the Major TV stations here in the UK. M2M produce both conscious hip hop and Nasheeds which is raps done over African style drums and by doing so the group has reached a wider audience. They have released two Nasheed albums. The new album is scheduled for release later this month under soundvision.
Last year they did collaboration with a Malaysian group called Raihan. Earlier on this year they recorded a track with none other than Napoleon from the Outlawz, that track will be coming out very soon.
M2M have also launched their own record company called Crescent Moon Music. The website is presently being built. The record company has the likeness of Truthful Movement, Baby Muslims, Lil’ Mia, etc.
M2M are firstly about spreading positive vibes in this increasingly dark world. They believe that every musician has a write to influence, guide and teach the next generation. As well as making and producing music, the boys are also busy doing workshops with young people, helping them to make the right moves in life.
The boys have just finished recording the second series of Brothers in the deen, a TV series for Islam Channel. Presently M2M consists of Rakin Misbah and Ismael the conspiracy poet.
The boys are also putting their finishing touches to their new Nasheed album which will be released later on this year.
Miss Undastood started writing at the age of eleven. School life was very strict and so rap was a form of escapism. She started rhyming ciphers in the streets of New York, and began to battle in college. She became the first Female Battle Champion in 2003. She started off doing regular secular raps but while she was in college at the age of eighteen she decided to do Islamic lyrics.
Back in the day Miss Undastood used to rap with Papoose on the streets of Brooklyn creating a buzz. She has battled Ali Vegas on the underground. She worked for the street team for Rockafella Records and has performed in clubs all over the United States. She has collaborated with many underground artists.
From the age of eighteen onwards Miss Undastood got writers block. Everything that came to her was Islamic. “People didn’t understand me”, she says, hence her name Miss Undastood. In the beginning there was support from both Muslims and non-Muslims. Miss Undastood has support from many influential Islamic Imans from New York to California. Her Inspiration in Islam is Abdul Malik. She likes and respects his straightforward lectures.
Her first CD was recorded in 2002. It received critical acclaim. “People were feeling the CD”. The non-Muslim press was also very interested in her work. She did a TV program called Cover Girl - Young Women’s Lives After 9/11. She has been interviewed by BBC radio1Xtra and the youth news program BBC Newsround. In the United Kingdom Miss Undastood has an ever increasing fan base. She performed at shows in London and Manchester with Mecca2Medina, The Planets, Sheikhspeare, The Blind Alphabetz and The Pearls of Islam in 2004 and 2005.
Truthful Movement are a young rap act who initially came together to express their grievances about the wrong-doings around them in a private and non-aggressive manner. However, as other individuals listened to these boys, it slowly became clear that their talent was not something to be hidden, but to be shared on a bigger platform Insha’Allah.
Truthful Movement is comprised of two brothers; Truth (better known as Masrur) and Emperor (better known as Kaiser). They are both of Bangladeshi descent, although both were born and raised in England and their rap work has been greatly influenced by their surroundings in the heart of East London. Their message is simple: ‘giving an insight from the eyes of a youth’. There are very few Muslim artists of this age group, and trying to educate the youth making them aware of situations is difficult, therefore, they use music as a form of communication that is targeted at this genre.
Masrur and Kaiser both wish to give the youth of today something that they can relate to, especially in this day and age.

About Us:
Sincerely, it's really not about us, it is all about Allah.
The Music:
Kamal: it's simply a tool to invite people in to Islam.
Idris: hip hop is huge. A lot of people listen to it, a lot of people are inspired by it, but almost all of it is haram, so it makes sense to have a halal alternative to encourage the youth of today to go back to the deen. I heard a talk from Imam Siraj Wahhaj and he said something like, “for every man selling a haram magazine, there should be someone selling a halal magazine”, and also I personally feel the need to correct the misconceptions people have of our beautiful religion (for the time being) the best way I know how, through hip hop.
Key-subjects:
Change, ego, materialism, misconceptions
Last-words:
La i la ha, il lal la hu, mo ham ma door, ra su lul lah.
Feed-back: “few Muslim artists come close to the educational lyrics produced by Baby Muslims. True, many Muslim artists cover Islamic subjects, but this group takes the cake for actually teaching the faith to their listeners. Their songs are a premier example of how Islam can be communicated through the power of music”. (muslimhiphop.com).
“La I la ha, il lal la hu, mo ham ma door, ra su lul lah”.
Once in a great while there comes an individual, whom projects his or her own distinct message and breaks the mould of the everyday artist. A product of the Lower East Side of New York , Baruch Projects Musa Mujaahid Mumin has a swift tongue and distinct style marked by his wit and machine-gun like flow. He has been deemed as the Muslim version of Christopher Rios. (Big Punisher).
Standing 6 foot 7 at 245 lbs, this towering artist is everything but one dimensional. Noted as a Poet/Singer Musa, has the ability to captivate any audience, bringing something new to the table every time. Inspired by the many musical influences in Musa's family, ranging from his brother who was a break dancer as well as a disc jockey, two of his sisters, cousin’s, and a brother-in-law who posses poetical/singing talent. Having to separate himself as an individual, it was apparent that his voice would be heard.
Musa has received the recognition from hip-hop icons, such as Wyclef Jean Nas and Doug E Fresh. Musa has appeared in various competitions, performed in many talent shows, has been heard on multiple radio stations, and has been featured on several DVD's. He is currently a facilitator and motivational speaker for incarcerated and troubled youth. He has ignited the fire in dozens of adolescents through out the New York City educational system, and correctional facilities. Helping them to realize, the brain should be utilized like any other muscle. He does this through a company named Giant Thinking/Bartendaz. This not only stimulates youngsters mind but their bodies as well.
As a solo artist, Musa grabs the everyday listener's ear and takes them on a journey through the windows of his soul with an arsenal of songs ranging from street anthems to poetic tales. Musa started off doing regular political poems and songs then made the conversion to, as he will call it “Halal Music”. Stating “Although I was born into Islam (La I la ha, il lal la hu, mo ham ma door, ra su lul lah), I felt like a non believer taking shahadah. I would always refer even with my prior music to Allah (swt) as well Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). That's what defined me. Neighborhood Mc's and fellow label mates used to call me “Good Brother” lol (laughing to himself). “They used to ask me, why do you always throw religion in your music? That’s not going to appeal to everyone”.
Musa would soon realize that it was in his name that would shape his destiny. Musa meaning Moses in English, being one of Allah's (swt) Prophets in Islam (pbuh). Mujaahid meaning the one who struggles against his own soul in Allah’s obedience, And lastly Mu'min is an Arabic Islamic term frequently referenced in the Qur'an, meaning “believer”, and denoting a Muslim that has complete submission to the will of God (Allah), and has faith firmly established in his heart.
“I knew what our purpose is, to be slaves of Allah. I didn’t want to do any music in which took the mind remembering Allah. Today’s music is geared around a club atmosphere or a sexual mood which is haram. I had to change this, if I was going to convey a message through music, it would be a message of Islam. I wanted to give Muslim brothers and sister's our own music to relate and listen to. The first day Musa had sat down to write on the right path, he created ten songs. Saying it felt refreshing, making a comparison of going to Juma on Fridays. “This is my home, this is where I belong”. Dawah is an obligation upon every Muslim because it is commanded by Allah (S). Today, as the beautiful religion of Islam is being misrepresented and portrayed in a distorted image, it has become incumbent upon every Muslim to deliver the pure message of Islam. Dawah is so important because it is Allah's order, which we must obey. Allah says in the Quran: (Invite to the Way of Your Lord with wisdom and good advice). (16:125). It is the work of Allah (S), which we must implement.
Lemoy the Siamese Empress born in London Westminster. Her ancestry roots derive from North Africa. She has been writing hip hop lyrics since the tender age of twelve.
Lemoy attended Anna Scher Drama School for a number of years and has always from an early age had a keen interest in acting, rapping and entertainment in general. She made home made movies, documentaries and adverts from an early age. However, she does also, has a passion for law, especially criminal law and human rights, and has studied Law in university and even pursued it as a career to a certain extent.
Her name derived from the fact that people have always compared her to a Siamese Cat and cat like features, and having “the same bone structure as a Siamese cat” and have always addressed her as the Little Princess or the Siamese Empress. Hence her music name.
Lemoy has always had a love of hip hop and a love of words and poetry. Her father is a poet and has written and published seven poetry books in French and Arabic. She believes rapping is in her genes as she has taken this love of words, poetry and raps as a gift like her father has. “He writes poetry and publishes them in books and I write poetry and rap them over tracks”.
Lemoy incorporates French and Arabic in her rhymes and raps about almost anything, mainly to do with life, herself, her views and opinions.
Lemoy admires many artists but looks up to only two role models, namely that being her mother and her mother’s mother, who are “both strong independent women, who are powerful in both handling business affairs and personal matters”.
Lemoy is currently signed to an independent Muslim music record label called Crescent Moon Music.
Lil Mia started rapping when she was just thirteen years of age.
She started because she was influenced by young boys in her school that used to spit bars together at break and she joined in for fun. A few of them said she had a good flow and to take it seriously so she did.
She listens to a lot of rap but was really influenced by Mecca2Medina and Truthful Movement.
Lil Mia loves conscious hip hop because she believes it gives a positive message to the youth.
Lil Mia wants to make music that young people can listen to and relate to. She hopes that young girls can listen to her lyrics and take on board her message of respecting themselves and staying positive.
Lil Mia is also a talented artist and actress. She had an extra part in the youth film adulthood. Lil Mia was signed by an independent record label Crescent Moon Music in 2008.
I think we will be seeing big things from this young North Weezy Artist.
