About Me
In a living room just north of downtown San Antonio, Texas, two guys, a guitar, a Marshall half-stack, a beat up vintage drum kit and an imagination about to be born marked the beginning of FIN DEL MAR. On New Years Day of 2003, guitarist Jose Carrillo and drummer Johnny Hernandez didnt leave that living room until something was created.
With both of their musical background histories, the two set out on a project that, at the time, was a day-by-day engagement. After months of writing and rehearsing, the two shoe-gazing instrumentalists joined forces with Rob Lucio, former guitarist of The Ballast Method (a San Antonio underground favorite). With Lucio now on bass, FIN DEL MAR began to grow with the soothing lushness he mastered as guitarist for The Method.
The writing continued as the band gigged, wooing fans with their melodic and thought-provoking instrumental music for the next year and a half. FIN DEL MAR then began to try out bassists in order for Lucio to flourish with his original love...the ambience of his guitar.
During that time, the band recognized the talent of a close friend and recruited him to add what they collectively thought as, wonderful layers added to the gaps in our music, on the piano. Not exactly wanting to be pigeonholed as a keyboardist, Robert Cevallos quickly provided the layers of piano and Wurlitzer (along with some synthesizer for good measure) that FIN DEL MAR was looking for.
After more tryouts and a couple of temporary bassist situations, the now instrumental quartet found the bassist they were looking for. John Cortez came from a variety of musical genres including San Antonio locals like, Mercury Dive, Jackie on Acid and Pseudo Buddha. FIN DEL MAR knew right away that Cortez was the man for the job.
Fitted like a jigsaw puzzle and running like a well-oiled machine, FIN DEL MAR is currently embarking on breaking out of the city to deliver a style of indie-rock like no other. The idea of being an instrumental band came to the founding members as way to dive head first with gigging and getting their name out in forefront of San Antonio-based bands without relying on a front-man, but instead, allowing fans to picture in their minds the stories, emotions and impulses their music evidently provokes.
FIN DEL MAR is currently working on pushing their newest upcoming effort entitled, RISING AND CRASHING with creatively outrageous tracks like, Loud Careless Mistakes, The Rapture, The Letterbox Epic, and the self-titled track, Fin del Mar. The band has been networking and gigging with the likes of, AM Syndicate, I Love You But Ive Chosen Darkness, The Umbrellas, Glorium, Fu Manchu and Mates of State. They are available for booking, looking for representation and searching for that magical opportunity to bring you some of the most unique, incredibly creative, instrumental indie-rock that has ever come out of San Antonio, Texas.
