About Me

I want to live life to its fullest. I want to laugh , because kindness and laughter are contagious and good for the soul. I want to love , because most of life's problems would be solved if we all spent more time giving, spreading and making love. I want to learn from the many experiences life has to offer.
When it rains it pours, so let the good times rain down upon us.
I'm a musician and enjoy playing my saxophone. I enjoy a good cup a coffee. I love living the green but rainy Pacific Northwest. I enjoy a good microbrew beer. I like stimulating conversation, literature, the performing arts, and good wine. At the same time I love lowbrow humor. I'm a bit of a treehugger. I'm very interested in studying world religions and cultures.
I enjoy being downtown in the middle of everything happening and people watching. I also like to travel through the various neighborhoods of Portland and seeing all the sights the city has to offer. I enjoy being out of the city in the country or up in the mountains and taking in the peace that it has to offer, or looking onto everything from up high and breathing in the serenity of being far away from everything yet being close enough to feel the energy of civilization.
In my free time I hang out with my friends. I tend to surround myself with fellow musicians and other artists (who tend to be a bit on the eccentric side), but I'm a friendly person and enjoy sounding myself with an ecelctic mixture of people.
While I have little faith in our country's administration and oppose the war in Iraq as well as being an advocate for peace, I'm proud to be a soldier and serve the people of the US by being in the US Army.
I'm a music student who is working toward becoming a teacher.
I support equal rights for all people regardless of sexual preference, race, religion, gender or social status.

Chocolate or Vanilla peanut butter
Hot Chocolate or Coffee: What sort of a stupid question is that?
Kiss or Hug: both at the same time.
Dog or Cat: Dogs are my favorite, but I am not opposed to cats. The cool thing about cats is that they are the answer to finding a clean form of energy. You see, if you take a buttered piece of toast (which always lands butter side down) and strap it to the back of a cat (which always lands feet first) it will hover and spin above the ground. This energy can be harnessed and used to supply the earth with pollution free energy.
Rap or Punk: funk
Summer or Winter: summer
Scary Movies or Funny Movies: funny
Love or Money: Money won't give you true happiness. Love (platonic, familial, romantic, etc.) is the best thing in life. However, I'm really broke right now and could use some money. Maybe I can sell some lovin' for money. Any takers?

IN A GUY/GIRL
Favorite Eye Color: I'm a sucker for pretty eyes.
Favorite Hair Color: clean
Short or Long: depends on who is wearing it.
Height: shorter than me
Style: I like any style as long as it isn't the whole "I went to the mall today to buy a skirt then get my nails done, get my hair bleached, buy more makeup then spend 4 hours in a tanning bed" look. It is a turn off when women are fake looking (I like natural beauty). I also don't dig the whole wearing a skirt over jeans thing. It just confuses me, I don't understand it.

My Interests

I like music (one would assume a musician would), progressive politics, cooking, reading, education, watching movies, and I recently got my bicycle fixed up and I plan to start riding a lot. I've also lately been very interested in meditation and would like to start doing it. I've been interested in Buddhist (particularly Zen) metaphysics for a while now, the next step is to put my money where my mouth is and actually begin meditating (however, it is not something that you can easily just "pick up," it takes discipline and time). While I'm not a religious person at all, I do consider myself to be very spiritual (a little known fact about me).

I'd like to meet:

I would really like to meet Maria Schneider. Her music is phenomenal and she seems like she would be a real interesting person to talk to. I also would like to meet Paul Simon.

I'm always interested in meeting new people, but if I don't know you in person I'm not interested in adding you to my friends list until we've met. Sorry.

Music:

Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Dave Matthews Band, Wayne Shorter, Steely Dan, Jamiroquai, Outkast, Joe Henderson, Astor Piazolla, Bela Fleck, Bela Bartok, Ben Folds, Beethoven, Michael Jackson, Billy Strayhorn, The Roots, The Beatles, Brad Mehldau, Debussy, McCoy Tyner, Weather Report, U2, Dexter Gordon, Sting, James Brown, Tool, John Coltrane, Parliament/Funkadelic, Rage Against the Machine, Maria Schneider Orchestra, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Gerry Mulligan, Dave Holland, Kurt Elling, Blood Sweat and Tears, Nick Brignola, Bob Marley, The Bad Plus, Don Sebesky, Chick Corea

Movies:

The Godfather, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Platoon, The Graduate, Office Space, American Beauty, Pulp Fiction, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Shaun of the Dead, Full Metal Jacket, Pi, Kill Bill 1 and 2, LOTR, Requiem for a Dream, The Big Lebowski (or anything by the Coen brothers), American History X, Primal Fear, Dr. Strangelove, Orange County, The Usual Suspects, High Fidelity, Planet of the Apes (the original version), Super Troopers, Donny Darko, Old School, Goodfellas, Casino

Television:

I don't have any TV reception at my house, so I can't watch it. However, my roommates and I are fond of watching television on DVD. I love to watch Family Guy, The Simpsons (this show will always have a special place in my heart), South Park and Arrested Development (a very hilarious yet unappreciated show).
I don't mind not having TV, but I do miss watching Law and Order and watching nerd channels (OPB, History Channel, Discovery Channel, etc.)

Books:

After much protest as I am a snob and don't like a lot of things that are popular, I finally gave into reading the Harry Potter series. I will be the first to admit that I was wrong. Harry Potter kicks ass. I burned through the series in a week. I usually enjoy to read a good classic, but I have been reading a lot on Buddhism lately.

Heroes:

The character "Gob Bluth" from the show Arrested Development.

My brothers and sisters in arms who are willing to lay their lives on line for the security of others regardless of whether or not they support the conflict they are fighting in.

End of an Era

I walked in through the front door this afternoon and saw that my roommate, Sean, had moved most of his stuff into the living room to stage it so he can move out. I walked up to my bedroom where I hav...

Life Revelations, Happiness and Looking Forward

Earlier this morning I was listening to Paul Simon and some of the lyrics to one of his songs really got me thinking about my life. In "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" he says:   "She said 'why don'...

My true feelings on St. Patrick's Day

The more I think about St. Patrick's Day, the more I have mixed feelings about it. I feel that all people should be proud of who they are and what their heritage is, and that being said, I am all for ...
