About Me

Growing up in the early years of hip-hop, back when the art of djing was still being developed, a young and impressionable boy named DJ KMP was exposed to the art of turntablism. From that point on a seed was implanted in KMP that grew into an obsession with all things relating to djing. According to KMP, one event changed his view and perspective of DJ’s, and that was when he saw the World Supremacy Battle between DJ Joe Cooley vs. DJ Cash Money. This one event really influenced him to take his passion of dee jaying seriously. As time progressed, so did DJ KMP’s skills and knowledge of his art form. Soon he was not only a DJ, but he added producer to his title. For KMP there was not enough time in the day to do all the things he wanted; producing and dee jaying kept him a very busy and sought after person. By the early nineties, KMP had already mastered such tools of production as the SP1200, MPC60, and finally the MPC3000. KMP later moved on to become a Pro Tools engineer working with computer based programs such as Logic 8, Reason and M-Audio Torq to name a few. By the mid-nineties, KMP was signed to Perspective A&M records along with his group the Black Spooks. The Black Spooks consisted of SLY BOOGY, DIRTY BIRDY, and DJ KMP. Although the group was locally successful, they were not given a chance to reach their full potential. KMP and his group left after 2 years with the label. This early experience with the industry showed KMP the do’s and don’ts; KMP used this experience as a learning platform for future ventures. By this time, DJ KMP was a fully established as one of the premiere DJ’s in the Hollywood and Orange County circuits, not to mention south of the border in the Coachella and Imperial Valley’s. Clubs such as the Century Club (Hollywood), Sutra Bar (Orange County) House of Blues (Orange County, Hollywood & Las Vegas), The Key Club (Hollywood), The Troubadour (Hollywood), The Whiskey (Hollywood), Club Ra (Mexicali, B.C.), Club Iggy’s (Rosarito, B.C.), Vault 350 (Long Beach), Belluno’s (Garden Grove), Carlos O’Brien’s (San Bernardino), Sevilla’s (Long Beach and Riverside) and E’ Street Alley (San Diego) are just some of the countless ones his skills have presided over. KMP is obviously not only a club DJ, but he is a weekend On-Air Personality on U92.7 in Palm Springs, as well as the 5 O’clock Traffic Jam Mixer. He can be heard Monday through Friday on U92.7 (www.927kkuu.com) at 5pm, as well as Sunday nights on Power 106 with The World Famous Wake Up Show at 10pm. Not to mention on various syndicated markets such as Arizona, San Francisco, San Diego, Palm Springs and internationally all over Europe. DJ KMP works side by side with Sway, King Tech and DJ Revolution as a co-host for the nationally syndicated show as well as the shows producer. Hard working is another description that comes to mind when one thinks of KMP. People tend to think that with the clubs and the radio, DJ KMP would be short or pressed for time, but he has somehow found time to manage artists and produce as well. He is currently the Director of A&R for Brother’s and Sister’s Entertainment out of New York and is currently working on his solo album to be released in 2008. DJ KMP is the official DJ for Chino XL and Kemo the Blaxican formally of Delinquent Habits. You can also catch him DJing for Money B of Digital Underground, Dr. Stank and various events for Kings Of The East (Riverside, CA). DJ KMP is considered to be the evolved DJ that works the business to his advantage rather than the business taking advantage of him. KMP is truly deserving of great accolades for his hard work all throughout the years. One only has to read his credentials to really get a sense of his achievements. This is a DJ that truly stands out above his DJ counterparts.
