The Empress of Female Anthems Still Reigns
Introduced as a member of the multi-platinum R&B group Xscape and later reinvented into a Grammy Award winning songwriter, Kandi Burruss has proven to be a talent with undefined boundaries. Passion, skill, talent for creating along with undeniable beauty, amazing vocal ability, and genuine humbleness are just the tip of the iceberg for this sweetening entertainer.
Kandi emerged on the music scene as the youngest member of Jermaine Dupri’s multi-platinum group Xscape The group achieved significant success with their three platinum albums which included the hits: “Just Kickin It“, “Understanding†, and “My Little Secretâ€, but they disbanded in 1999 to work on solo projects. That same year Kandi penned her first number one single, “No Scrubsâ€, for R&B/Pop group TLC which later earned her an esteemed Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. The following year she continued on a world wind of songwriting success crafting numerous hits for many multi-platinum and Grammy winning artists such as NSYNC, Joe, and Boyz II Men. In late 2000 as if things could not get any better Kandi made history becoming the first woman ever to receive the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Award for Songwriter of the Year. She also released “Hey Kandi†a Billboard Top 100 album that spawned the Billboard Hot 100 single “Don’t Think I’m Not†and further helped establish her as a solo superstar, entertainer, and songwriter.
Following her solo success, Kandi again focused her talents on writing — collaborating with some of the world’s largest artists. Her work with Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, TLC, Monica, LSG, N*SYNC, Pink, Boyz II Men, B2K and Alicia Keys has propelled her name to the top of many artists songwriter’s list and help sell at least 56 million records.
Known for her candid, in-your-face lyrics and catchy melodies, this humble writing sensation sets out to continue her reign of success. In late 2006 she surprised many with her appearance on the Billboard top 100 hit “U and Dat†with E-40 and T-pain. Her reemergence as an artist on the edgy summer hit proved that even though she has been out of the public eye for a few years she has not lost her touch and "The Empress" certainly still reigns victorious.
Kandi is back! The name is still sweet! And this breathtaking singer/songwriter, who was the first woman to earn the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Songwriter of the Year Award, certainly see Kandi is here to stay and her work just gets sweeter everyday!
