I am here for Dating, Serious Relationships, Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm originally a Dallas boy who escaped to California shortly before his 30th birthday just because I needed a change of scenery. After two years milling around near LAX I'm landed in the much more hopping Long Beach.

I fancy myself a writer somedays but as my current lack of blog entries can attest I'm suffering from a debilitating case of laziness and currently edit press releases because it's easy and provides me a nice stable source of income and a nice view of LA outside my window.

Maybe I'll get to work on those blog entries soon...

My Interests

Old comic books, music (indie to classic rock), arty movies and bidding on crap on eBay that I totally don't need. I've been buying old action figures like crazy lately. Eventually I'm gonna have to start selling stuff on eBay to get rid of all the junk I've amassed from eBay -- vicious circle.

I'd like to meet:

people who excel at nonverbal communication -- raised eyebrows, furrowed brows, snarled noses, knowing glances...

...and Rachael Harris, the blonde chic with the glasses on "Notes From the Underbelly" and that TMobile commercial.

Music:

All time faves: Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks, Smiths/Morrissey, Saint Etienne, the B-52's, Blondie

Recent stuff I've been in to: Voxtrot, Sea Wolf, Arcade Fire, Feist, Tegan & Sara, Spoon, the Shins

Shows I've been to recently: the Editors, Magnetic Fields, Siouxsie

The big, long list: New Order, Depeche Mode, REM, Pretenders, Belle & Sebastian, Blur, Pulp, Suede, Oasis, Doves, INXS, Pet Shop Boys, Sonic Youth, Nick Cave, Bjork, the Police, Death Cab, Modest Mouse, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, the Church, Iggy Pop (not so much the Stooges), David Bowie, Concrete Blonde, Interpol, Love & Rockets, Midnight Oil, Matthew Sweet, Jesus and Mary Chain, Kate Bush, Bright Eyes, Texas, Rilo Kiley, Duran Duran...

And I'm infinitley fascinated by classic rock. I love to really dig into an old band's entire catalogue -- the good, the bad, the obscure, the forgotten... Give me a big 'ol double disc compilation or box set over a single greatest hits CD anyday. The Eagles, Jackson Browne, Pink Floyd, Heart, the Beatles, ELO, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and most recently (about time) Led Zeppelin.

And don't worry kids, the country phase is pretty much so over, at least until I move back to Texas!

Movies:

Just finished watching all 21 official James Bond films (plus the unofficial "Never Say Never Again"

What I've seen lately in the theater: all the Oscar noms, The Bank Job

All-time faves (in order): Dazed and Confused, Trainspotting, The Living End, The Velvet Goldmine, The Graduate, Stand By Me and Clue. American Beauty, Magnolia and Boogie Nights will eventually be on this list.

Television:

Currently watching: Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Weeds, Big Love, Ugly Betty, Heroes, Notes from the Underbelly, Nip/Tuck, The Office, My Name is Earl and (still) ER.

New show I didn't want to like but can't pull myself away from: Women's Murder Club (For real -- Angie Harmon does a better Sandra Bullock than Bullock herself.)

All time faves: Popular, Twin Peaks, Cheers/Frasier, Three's Company, Lost, the great HBO "S" shows (Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, the Sopranos), Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, Freaks and Geeks

Current guilty pleasure: I Love New York

Guiltiest pleasure: Melrose Place

Also, I recently Netflixed the first season of Maude because I'd never seen an episode and it was supposed to be so groundbreaking and I remember my mom once complaining about how awful "ol' Maude" was. Turns out it's great! "God'll getcha for that Arthur..."

Books:

I used to read a lot more than I do now. I can't get my nose out of Entertainment Weekly and comic books. Current faves: Y - The Last Man, American Virgin, Justice Society of America, She-Hulk, Captain America and most anything that Ed Brubaker or Geoff Johns write.

"Confederacy of Dunces" has been sitting on my nightstand for a while now...

Heroes:

Dan Savage, Robbie Williams, Morrissey, Stevie Nicks, Deborah Harry, Chrissie Hynde, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett...

People Who Died

So driving to work this morning I passed a small funeral procession on the 405. (Why anybody would want to take a funeral procession on the 405 is beyond me...) But that old Jim Carroll song "People W...

Hustler baby stroller

Last weekend I was walking down 2nd Street behind the Rite-Aid and I saw a frumpy looking lady wearing a HUSTLER T-shirt pushing a baby in a stroller. I don’t think that’s what Larry Flynt...

I'm actually going to miss Nancy Grace...

So, news broke recently that Nancy Grace, the bastion of CNN legal news obnoxiousness, is going on sabatical to have twins. And I must confess that I'm actually kind of a fan and I'm going to miss her...

So, I'm at this Morrissey concert on Friday night at the Hollywood Bowl (ninth time to see him by my count) and I can't even remember what song it was but he rips his shirt off and throws it out into ...
