Feel Free... For Real

About Me

Julian McFarland, a native of Columbia, MO is a musician and filmmaker. When asked at what age he became a musician, he states that as a young boy he used to whistle while playing a guitar constructed of a Frisbee and a variety of rubber bands, as well as a drum set comprised of soda cans and a Lego bucket. Although he has not had any formal training, he and his brother played their keyboard and acoustic guitars whenever they could. At age 14, he became inspired after viewing the 1968 horror classic, Night of the Living Dead, and set his sights on filmmaking. In 2000, he co-wrote, co-directed and starred in “The Blair Insect Project”, a short parody film. In 2001, Julian wrote, directed and appeared in “Dan Versus the Devil,” a short horror film, which he remade in 2003. After graduating high school in 2003, he joined his first musical group, playing keyboard for Counterfeit Heroez, a local jam band. In 2006, he produced, “Start a War to Stop Yourself” his debut album under the name Divine Intervention Coalition. He is currently working on his first feature length screenplay, “Wake the Dead”, a horror film about the living dead.

Michelle Grant, writer and musician, was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. At age 2, she began making cassette recordings of herself singing and acting out comedy sketches with her father. She continued this practice by herself throughout grade school, playing a little Casio keyboard and writing songs for her schoolmates. She became an avid music collector at age 14 when she saw here favorite band Genesis live in concert and started trading bootlegs. In school, she focused on theater, acting in and directing numerous plays. At age 19, after the birth of her son, she began writing poetry and singing back up for local bands. In 2002, she self-published her first book of poetry “Transitional Girl.” In 2007, she moved to Columbia, MO. She is currently editing her second book of poetry. The Forealsies met in the summer of 2007 and begin collaborating on keyboards. Until that point, Michelle had not recorded music for several years, but it became apparent that their musical tastes meshed very well- Julian leaning towards 1980’s new wave and Michelle towards 1970’s progressive rock. Although their keyboards were inexpensive and aging, it was evident in their first recorded sessions together that their unique playing styles, harmonious vocals and nostalgic sounds created an easy-going, melodic mix of music and lyrics. The Forealsies continue to record and edit tracks for their upcoming debut album, “Feel Free.”
