The meaning of the word nigun: melody without words. The band was founded by András Párniczky in 2001. Evoking east-european jewish traditions is not so unusual in the American jazz sphere: think about John Zorn and musicians of Tzadik records. In Europe, Nigun is the only follower of this line, the origins of which are found both in deepen sprituality and today's jazz. Tradition and modernity, bound forms and improvsation, calmness and vibration: contrasts completing each other feature the music of Nigun while the Yiddish and Hungarian cultural traditions get new and common qualities in an authentic environment.
Nigun recorded theirs first album Klezjazz in 2003 (thejewishweek.com: best of 2003). Second was 'Standard' in 2004 (Gramofon Magazin August 2004: five star) and theirs third and last until now is Bale Kulturnik featuring Daniel Zamir from 2006. In July 2007 they played with Matt Darriau /Klezmatics, Paradox Trio/ at the The Palace of Arts Budapest where two of Nigun's artists also participated in John Zorn's Cobra last year. real editor best profile tools real editor best profile tools
