With the release of their debut album Lyrical Peace EP, Xavier and
Ayinde, formally known as Kemizt and Young Bugz, attempted to set
standards whilst displaying lyrical prowess equivalent to established
artists Nas and Eminem. The album, which reached retail outlets such as
Walmart and Best Buy, gained a plethora of accolades granting them
appearances in newspapers, magazines, radio, as well as television.
Backed by a strong management and support group which consisted of the
duo's fathers, Elvis G. Hartley and Reginald J. Hye, ReKon was able to
reach plateaus in a time frame usually unachievable by major labels.
Unfortunately success comes with a price tag.
In September of 2005, Elvis G. Hartley, President of Infamilia Music,
lead manager of ReKon and father of Xavier, was brutally murdered at the hands of cowards. Being that Elvis handled most forms of business, the
incident left the duo unarmed with the resources necessary to progress
in the harsh habitat of the music industry.
However, ReKon was able to transform the negatives into positives, and
with the backing of the very few who contributed to the duo's
prosperity, they were able to continue from where Elvis Hartley's vision
left off and operate the company, Infamilia Music, despite the fact that they were minors.
With the work ethic which was rooted in them by their fathers, ReKon
released a mixtape entitled, Manifest Destiny Volume 1. The project
showed not only that the two were able to conduct business by themselves (designing the layouts, engineering, putting forth the money to have it
pressed, and marketing the product), but it also re-iterated the fact
that ReKon is a lyrical force to be reckoned with, proving that
ingenious and catchy lyrics did not have to contain profanity and
promote explicit lifestyles.
In fact, the best is yet to come. Xavier and Ayinde' are pursuing
further education. Ayinde' will be attending SUNY Oneonta in the fall of '07, while Xavier will make a transitional move to Atlanta, Georgia,
where he will attend a college near his residence. Ayinde' will be
majoring in Music Industry and Xavier will most likely major in
Journalism.
The move will not disrupt ReKon's hit making chemistry. They are
currently near completion of the follow up to 2006's Manifest Destiny
Volume 1. Sure to be another success, fans should look forward to catchy hooks, humorous concepts, lyrical genius and thought provoking word play. Sure to be hits such as the street single,
Stuntin' Is A Habit, in which the group displays the fact that you do not need big rims and massive amounts of cash to shine, and
Hey ft. Eddiemaestro, a song based on the scenario of meeting a beautiful girl in the street and using charm to gain her admiration, will be featured on the upcoming mixtape.
ReKon is sure to have longevity in the game with various doors opening for them. Look forward to a set precedence as far as lyrical capability, as Xavier and Ayinde' rapidly raise the bar. Re-Ez
