Barry Morgenstein was born on March 18, 1961. Raised in Teaneck, New Jersey and living what was then his first passion, blues and rock-n-roll. One day, while volunteering to take publicity shots of his then girlfriend, his band’s lead singer; Barry put down his guitar and discovered his true gift of photography.
Driven to his new passion, Barry enrolled at the International Center for Photography in New York City where he learned the basic principles, which would eventually lay the foundation for his development of a deeper, personal approach to photography.
Upon graduating from the International Center for Photography, Barry landed a position as an assistant to renowned music photographer Mark Weiss. Within two years, he was the top photographer at the agency. Barry shot primarily concerts and studio sessions, building a magnificent portfolio and a reputation that allowed him to found his own photography studio.
Barry’s goal today remains the same as it was the first time he picked up a camera- to capture the essence of the moment- in every photograph he takes. In this way, Barry likes to compare photography to guitar playing- often saying in interviews that, “a truly great photographer can capture the emotion of the moment with a few simple lights, just as great guitar player can transmit feeling through a few simple notes.â€
His simple approach and innate ability to capture the true beauty and emotion of his clients have made Barry a sought after photographer in the entertainment industry. The list of clients he has worked with read as a virtual who’s who of the entertainment and music industry. Among the celebrities he has had the privilege of photographing are Paul McCartney, Meryl Streep, Donald Trump, and Sammy Davis Jr.
