Hey, you there, let’s talk. What about? You and I! Sure, I’ll go first.
My name is Robert, nice to meet you. I’m 24 and live in southern California. Funny? Yeah, I’m not a comedian, but I can always get a few laughs. I’m usually outgoing and like to talk to strangers. Up until a year ago I wouldn’t describe my self as confident but since then I have greatly improved. There are still the occasional insecurities but for the most part I keep them in check.
I have many interests but my values are what really define me. I’m into reason , compassion, optimism, generosity, honesty and communication. Lately I've started to consider myself an Objectivist, even though I disagree with a few things Rand & Co believe. Promoting liberty is something I strongly believe in. Politically, I am a libertarian/anarcho-capitalist and I am proud of it. Some people don't understand it, some do not like it, but I think it's a very good thing. I think the more reason-based and liberty-minded we become, the better off the world will be. To learn how to aid in promoting liberty I have started to read books on economics, politics, law, and history. As the companion to those I seek to continuously open my mind. To learn about other cultures, religions, beliefs and to expand my base of knowledge. To be fair to all people and interact with them based only on their values and actions rather than race, gender, age, nationality or any other superficial classifier. Because of this I am a very unconventional/non-traditional type of person in many ways, but it is all in favor of goodwill. This is something that both intrigues and motivates me. Within the last year the desire to travel has grown in me. I want to see the world.
Some other things about me? As corny and cliche as it is, I am very much into romance. Yeah, I know, "everyone is", but I really am. It may sound like an oxymoron, but I would like to think of myself as a realist romantic. I want a family, close friends and a love that brings me to my knees and gives me the strength to get back up. But I realize that they are rare and require pursuit, dedication and most importantly, an understanding of each other's values and desires.
I think that paints a picture of my finer points. :)
Alright, your turn, and I want details. I don’t care if you message me here, e-mail me ([email protected]) or IM me (AIM QuixoticParamour), I want to hear from you. Add me as a friend while you’re at it. Once you tell me a bit about yourself I’ll tell you more about me.
Thanks for checking out my profile, I’ll look forward to hearing from you.
May you find joy in all you seek,
Robert
Some interesting QUOTES:
"It's not that most men don't try to do the right thing. The problem is that they don't know what the right thing is. No Suicide Bomber doubted the rightness of his action as being moral. This all begs for a reason based ethics."
Arnold Broese-van-Groenou
"Science is progressive because its paradigms depend upon the cumulative knowledge gained through experimentation, corroboration, and falsification. Pseudoscience, non-science, superstition, myth, religion and art are not progressive because they do not have goals or mechanisms that allow the accumulation of knowledge that builds on the past. Their paradigms either do not shift, or coexist with other paradigms. Progress, in the cumulative sense, is not their purpose. This is not a criticism, just an observation. Priests, rabbis, ministers do not attempt to improve upon the sayings of their masters; they repeat, interpret and teach them. Pseudoscientists do not correct the errors of their predecessors, they perpetuate them."
--- Shermer
"Infinite" does not mean large; it means larger than any specific quantity, i.e., of no specific quantity. An infinite quantity would be a quantity without identity. But A is A. Every entity, accordingly, is finite; it is limited in the number of its qualities and in their extent; this applies to the universe as well. As Aristotle was the first to observe, the concept of "infinity" denotes merely a potentiality of indefinite addition or subdivision. For example, one can continually subdivide a line; but however many segments one has reached at a given point, there are only that many and no more. The actual is always finite.
"Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand" by Leonard Peikoff Pp. 31-32
"I have to believe in the world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning, even if I can't remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world's still there.
But do I? Do I believe the world's still there?
Is it still out there?!
We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I'm no different.
Now... where was I?
