Turbines to Speed burst into the Melbourne scene in 2005 with their debut gig at the Battle of the Bands. For a band that had only recently formed and never played together in front of a crowd, coming runners up in the competition was a tribute to their raw energy and dirty hook-laden riffs.
Turbines is made up of hard rockers Ben Burke (lead guitar and vocals), Kyle Travis (bass), and Simon Smith (drums). Two of the three band members – Kyle and Simon - hail from New Zealand and have both adopted Melbourne as their home. Simon met Ben, a born and bred Melbournian, and the two began jamming together before they met Kyle at the local pub. Three weeks later they formed Turbines to Speed and they haven’t looked back.
Throw the combined ingredients of grunge, sweat, power and some groove into a blender and you have the full Turbines sound. This new breed of grunge rock has hard and heavy guitar, rumbling bass, smashing drums and big vocals. The Turbines almighty beast of a sound decimates dance floors, as well as a few drum sticks and guitar straps along the way.
Turbines have played a number of gigs in Melbourne and across Victoria, supporting many successful bands including 28 Days, Spiderbait, The Spazzys, The Androids and Frenzal Rhomb. Recent gigs in live music venues across Melbourne continue to win over punters and leave their dedicated followers screaming for more. Their energy packed shows will promise to blow you away.
Come see for yourselves but be warned, Turbines come with a guarantee - their songs invade your brain and stick in your head the next day. And the next day. And the next…
