Brandon Mezzelo is a Saint Louis based saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator. Originaly from Peoria, Ill. Brandon grew up at an early age playing in local and regional blues, R & B, and jazz groups from St. Louis to Chicago.
After one fateful night at Buddy Guys "Legends" in Chicago with legendary drummer Buddy Miles it was off to the Army band for an 8 year "mini-carrer" that brought him to Europe. Brandon was principal saxophonist for the Army bands (3ID, Wurzburg; 76th Army Band, Weisbaden) and traveled extensively as both a performer and a student of history.
Upon returning to the states Brandon attended MSU in Springfield, MO. holding down the lead tenor chair in the Missouri State Jazz Band, directed by Jerry Hoover for another 4 years, traveling as well to many interesting places and performing for a variety of functions. It was also during this time that he bagan working in the local music scene quite extensively with such well known musicians like Richard Bruton, Johnny Strickler, and Kristi Merideth to name few.In 2006, Mr. Mezzelo headed for St. Louis where he works and remains today. He has played with some of the finest musicians that the city has to offer. Charlie Glenn, Kim Massie, Anita Rosamond, John King, Keith Moyer, Ron Carr are but a few of the great St. Louis musicians that he has shared the stage with.
After a breif tour with R & B great Floyd Taylor, Brandon has begun focusing on a solo carrer and performing in settings that allow him to truly explore and harness his drive and ambition. St. Louis has been a great base to network and reach others through the universal language that we all know and love so well.
With a head for the forever changing soundscape and a strong foundation rooted deep in the lessons of the many greats that have come before him, it is apparent that a bright future lies ahead for this veteran performer.
