About Me

Gemeinschaftsgefuhl - Maslows' interpretation is: "Identification, sympathy and affection for mankind, kinship with the good, the bad and the ugly, older-brother attitude. Truth is clear to him; can see things others cannot see."Contrast, soft fabrics, crayons, random hopscotch boards on sidewalks, ice skating, horseback riding (western, please), spinning/dancing, single malt scotch, good china used everyday, mirrors, plush beds, great big den chairs, cooking (mostly Sonoran or good ol' midwestern grub), paying it forward, one-on-one conversations, making up ridiculous storylines, smiling at strangers, PDA, toasting to the what is mundane to others, laughing really hard and loud, the great outdoors, the big city, tucking in shirt tags for strangers, dreaming, daydreaming, the view from my bedroom (it's hard to beat, man - on a paupers bankroll), old folks, happy pets, floating in an outdoor pool at night, giggling, sometimes - sobbing, sunrises, sunsets, sketching trees, collecting rocks for my Grandma, stopping to smell the flowers, being smiled at by children, flying at night, planning, organizing, cleaning (oh yeah, I love to clean), snorkeling, snowskiing, metaphors... all this, and more, really, really turns me on.

My Interests

Deserted beaches, mountain passes and dives with a dirty disco jukebox and cheap rita's. Scotch buzz. Fiesty horses, big dogs and crazy cats. Long road trips. Strong, silent and morally unbiased Cowboys. Sonoran Food. Ice Cream with melted peanut butter. Asian art. Modernism. Symbolism. Living green within my means. Mornings. Very early, mornings. Coffee with yummy cream. Farmers Markets. Witnessing Road Rage. Daisies. The 4th of July. Zoning out. Holing up. Crickets chirping. Festivals - all kinds of festivals. Early evening missle tests. Conquering. Relinquishing. Minor lawlessness. Fresh, piney-air. People. Beautiful, honest and challenging people. Or the challenged. Goes both ways, ya know.

I'd like to meet:

Folks who either adhere to Gemeinschaftsgefuhl or wanna give it a whirl. And writers. I love writers.

Music:

could never tire of David Bowie. Ministry, New Order and The Cure bring back good memories of smelly punk bars in Broad Ripple and houndstooth skirts. Pink and Black. Johnny Cash and Mike Ness' contribution. Neil Young - Harvest Moon... I'm gonna cry right now. Beck, Madonna, Firewater, Dean Martin (coolest person to ever grace the planet), The Miriachi Band at El Compadre on Sunset, Live Phish Shows *sniffle*, Mozart, Silliputti,Irina Bjorklund and Peter Fox, Hollywood U2 - yeah, Miranda Richards, My friend, Paul, who played the guitar and sang for me once, that was shocking and beautiful, Tosca.

Movies:

Henry Fool, Momento, Fight Club, Heat, Midnight Cowboy, Shane, Unforgiven, man with no name trilogy, The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Magnificent Seven, Logan's Run, A really beautiful Japanese Short Cuts Film, Animatrix, The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, The Country Girl, The Black Stallion, Documentaries, Tommy, Henry Fonda war flicks, Opening Night, Dog Day Afternoon, Billy Elliot, Il Postino, Like Water for Chocolate, Sex and Lucia, The Usual Suspects, Reservior Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Shaun of the Dead, Malibu's Most Wanted, Arthur, Being There

Collecting dust someplace else

Books:

Right now: Profiles of Genius by Gene L. Landrum and Freaky Deaky by Elmore Leonard Old Favs: The Old Man and the Sea, Forever Amber, Butterfly, The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, The Electric Koolaid Acid Test, Ham on Rye, Love Poems by Women, The Poetry of Ernest Hemingway, Tender is the Night, Joseph Conrads Short Stories - actually, I dig a lot of russian authors considering their talent for contrast and bringing beauty to a barren or dangerous landscape, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Spy in the House of Love, Erotica Short Stories, Christine, Skeleton Crew, I couldn't finish IT but I must give it kudos for keeping me clear of drainage grates, Wolf Moon, Tin Star, Black Beauty, Dr. Suess, and listening to our Elders tell stories are some of the greatest "audio books" around.

Heroes:

E.O. Wilson "When all else fails, men turn to reason", Joseph Campbell, Papaw Arch, Papaw Jim and Grandma Betty.

Rough Draft Notes from South Lake Tahoe

Although we left San Francisco about an hour and half later than planned, we still stopped in Placerville to visit the used bookstore where I purchased a copy of Forever Amber (here we go again...), T...
