About Me

Music is not worth making if you do not have fun doing it. Music is more about friends, sing alongs, and a good time than chords scales and lyrics. If you get this too, then we’re on the same page,

there is a 5th dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lays in the pit of mans’ fears and a summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination, it is an area that we call... THE SERLINGTONS!

(REVIEW BY LORD RUTLEDGE)

The Serlingtons are the best Ramones-core band I've heard in many years. In its perfect simplicity, crude musicianship, and sick humored/borderline offensive lyrics, the band is clearly emulating the first Ramones album specifically. And vocally, there's also a palpable (but probably coincidental) similarity to the great California punk band The Simpletones. Ditch's half-spoken, monotone-ish, "I don't give a fuck" style of singing recalls 'Tones classics such as "I Like Drugs" and "Dead Meat (Killer Smog)". Consequently, The Serlingtons are not easily pegged as modern-day pop-punkers. If you'd told me this album was recorded in 1980 rather than 2006, I totally would have believed you (up until the point of the Donnie Darko sound bites!). And really, this isn't pop at all (except for "Make You Mine", which is surprisingly catchy). It's straight punk, and all of you douches who always say "I love The Ramones but hate all the bands that rip them off" would be well-served to give these guys a chance! What I like is that The Serlingtons are throwbacks to the days when politically incorrect, blatantly stupid lyrics were part of what made punk rock fun. "Afghani Affair" is great - definitely one of the best satires I've heard on the Dubya era bonehead nationalist mentality. And as the song titles imply, "Ohio Is For Cutters" and "Go Menstrual" are not tender love ballads. This group also shows a pronounced fondness for zombie flicks, which is a-ok in my book.

The Serlingtons totally get it right. They pound out three-chord punk music and have a great time doing it. They specialize in one basic thing and are totally awesome at it. They are very open about the debt they owe to The Ramones, yet they are completely their own band. In short, they are the antithesis of emo. And for that, they deserve a major award.
Sounds Like: Michael Strahan sacking the shit out of Tom Brady.
