How dare you call me a grown up!!

About Me

About me...what's to tell really? I'm probably one of the strangest "normal" people you'll ever meet. I'm a single mom who works full time and goes to school part time. But at the same time my life is a contridiction of itself.

I love the Yankees but tend to glare over when watching most other baseball teams play. Like all women, I have a shoe habit but I also love to walk around barefoot in the grass. I also have a sock fetish to boot the shoes and own probably 50 different styles and patterns. I'll bitch about the fact that it costs $5 for a tub of popcorn at the movies but will drop a couple hundred dollars on a pair of shoes and not even have buyer's remorse afterward. I believe in family values but don't believe anyone has a right to dictate who family is to me. I live with my best friend of the last decade (she is more family to me than most who are blood) and my daughter lives with me half the time and with her daddy the other half of the time. Shanna and I have almost always been total opposites. She's the social butterfly while I tend to stay in my own world most of the time. She is ruled by her heart, I am ruled by my head. We're teaching one another a lot of things. I'm learning that sometimes you do have to just let your heart lead you where it will and she is learning how to really think things through before she reacts purely on emotion. My daughter is my biggest inspiration. She makes me strive to become the kind of person that I would like to see her become. She makes me into a better role model and human being. I'm still friends with my ex-husband (and the majority of the people I've dated) and I like to think that we both know that we have one another's back if needed. Always good to have a big guy on your side. :-) I listen to an ecclectic variety of music with punk being one of my favorite genres but I work in a cube and like the structure of Corporate America (at least as a working environment). I have tattoos that were strategically placed so that they could be tucked away for those corporate days. Of course at this stage in my life I wouldn't mind getting rid of a few of them, but they are a part of my past and evidence of a youthful exuberance. I was born with straight hair and then when I became a teenager my hair curled so now I'm a naturally curly girl. I have a sibling who is in his 40s and a sibling in kindergarten (and a rack of them in between). Right now my baby brother won't speak to me and my older brother and I are closer than I ever imagined as children we would be.I love languages and can curse you out in about 6 of them. I love the English language and the complexities of it, but rarely think in actual words. I usually express to myself in numbers and colors. Is that strange? I don't like people who flex their power over people and hate being in the midst of violence, unless of course it is structured violence like boxing or something of that sort. I love to turn up the radio and sing at the top of my lungs but will not sing in front of anybody that I don't know unless you get me plastered and take me to a karaoke bar, but I should warn you that alcohol makes me tone deaf so don't even try it. :-) I like to build things with my hands and take things apart to see if I can figure out how they work. I love to cook with my specialty being Greek and Italian meals. I'm a pretty good baker, but I must warn that I will force my pastries on innocent by-standers to get them out of the house because I haven't much of a sweet tooth so no sense in it sitting around here! I hate tomatoes but love marinara sauce and other things made from tomatoes. I love NYC and everything that it has to offer and hope to return there to live again after my kid is raised, but for now I love living in Arkansas and having to get creative when it comes to entertainment. I like to go trout fishing down at the river for hours discussing loopholes in the Catechism. During the summer you'd be hard pressed to not find me down at the lake camping, swimming, playing on the toys, etc. I love to paint and appreciate art in it's many facets though I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination. That's more my siblings' gig. I am a complicated person who enjoys the simple pleasures in life. If this isn't enough information, then you're looking for too much on the internet. :-)

My Interests

I love to create art in all facets (painting, acting, singing) even if I'm not very good at it, travel, read, being outdoors, big fan of GOOD djs loving to shake my feathers, currently in the midst of a religious crisis and trying to figure out "the truth". I also have a list of things that I want to do before the end of summer. #1 being SCUBA. #2 is jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, pulling a string and hoping for the best. :)
Your Stripper Song Is
Super Freak by Rick James

"That girl is pretty wild now
The girl's a super freak
The kind of girl you read about
In new-wave magazine"

Freaky? Yes. But you're also pretty darn funny. What Song Should You Strip To?

I'd like to meet:

I'm stepping out of old habits these days. I'm changing my world views and philosophies. I'm doing all the things that I claimed I never would. I'm going to do all the things that I said I wanted to. I'm testing the boundaries these days...If my natural instinct tells me that it's something that I won't like, I'm going for it. And I've found out that the things that I thought that surely I wouldn't like have become some of my favorite things. However, grown ups are preferable. Nothing wrong with being young and all of that, but let's face it, I'm 30 years old and am not going to have much in common with someone who is 19 and still living at home with Mom and Dad. Someone who knows how to enjoy a fine wine and knows how to differentiate between a good wine and bad wine and knows how to serve it up properly gets extra bonus points. Someone who isn't afraid to throw a JagerBomb gets even more bonus points if coupled with the prior. :-)

Music:

Song of the Week: "Gone for Good" a la Morphine. Jungle, House, 2 Step, Punk, Ska, Blues, Rockabilly, some rap and R&B, OLD country (think Patsy Cline et al) etc. Favorite artists include Janis Joplin, Lords of Acid, Morphine, Sublime, GG Allin (not really as a singer but more of a performance artist in the shock value kind of way), Violent Femmes, Dead Kennedys, Johnny Cash, Dead Milkmen, Erykah Badu, Tripping Daisy, Soul Coughing, G. Love and the Special Sauce, Bloodhound Gang, KMFDM, Antigone Rising, Outkast, Otis Redding, Me'Shell Ndegocello, Ray Charles, Social D, Liz Phair, Fray, Beastie Boys and...this is getting too long...If it makes me groove, dance or sing, I'm down with it.

Movies:

The Departed, The Illusionist, Fight Club, The Boondock Saints, Godfather Trilogy, Goodfellas, Scarface, But I'm A Cheerleader!, Amelie, Kiki's Delivery Service, The Pianist, Chicago, Chasing Amy, The Lion King, ET, Pi, Kissing Jessica Stein, Sidewalks of New York, LOTR, Reservoir Dogs, Princess and the Warrior, Star Wars, Home at the End of the World, Saved, Finding Neverland, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Run Lola Run, and this is getting too long too! I like just about everything that Focus Features has put out.

Television:

My TV turns on one time each week for broadcasts. That's it. Otherwise, I'm too busy to be worrying about it.

Books:

I almost always have two or three books being actively read in my nightstand. I'm on a bit of classics kick right now. I'm reading all those books that I read years ago and haven't since. I.E. To Kill a Mockingbird, The Grapes of Wrath, Uncle Tom's Cabin, etc. Someone had told me to reread The Catcher in the Rye to better understand them. I've decided that perhaps I shouldn't know them anymore so a very short book is taking forever to read. Perhaps I will put it back down for now and pick it back up when I don't have the animosity attached to it. I shouldn't even call it animosity. Just more of a state of irritation at this point. Anger and hate take too much time and energy and I haven't enough of those things to share. Shanna tells me that I need to read Angels and Demons next. I think that will be my next one to pick up. Step out of the classics for a bit.

Heroes:

As cheesy as it sounds, my mom. She is the ultimate pillar of strength and a dear friend to me. Always supportive but not afraid to speak her truth. I love that about her. If I ever grow up, I want to be like her. Also, my kid. McKenna reminds me how fun it can be just to jump in a puddle. No worries. Just be... My new favorite quote now is: "People are more violently opposed to fur than to leather because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs."
