About Hanna Marsh
Hanna Marsh (born on 21 December 1978 in Jyvaskyla, Finland) is a Finnish singer/songwriter known for her emotional and touching sound. She released her debut album Chameleon Girl: Sleeping Under The Rising Sun at the end of August 2006 and the new album "Play" at the end of February 2008.
Her passion for music was ignited at the age of five, with the arrival of her first piano. Her first compositions saw the light of day that very same year. A few years later, the preternaturally musical little Hanna started her studies at a music school. Choir practice and ballet lessons became a regular part of her routine at the same time.
All her life, Hanna has listened to a lot of classical music, like Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, as well as Claude Debussy. As the years went by, pop music, like The Bealtes and numerous film soundtracks, became a part of her musical diet, too.
In addition to a disciplined study of the piano, Hanna started taking singing lessons early on. Since music has always played such huge part in her life, it was only natural that after graduating from a music-intensive high school, Hanna would continue her studies at a conservatory.
In August 2006, Hanna Marsh released her debut album, ”Chameleon Girl- Sleeping Under The Rising Sun”, which consists entirely of her own songs. The melodic and beautiful album contains eight different stories. ”The songs deal with searching, growing, my own relationship with the surrounding world. Listening to it now, I think they tell the story of how I’ve wanted to, and tried to, find the child inside me again,” Hanna muses. ”Nature is a strong presence in many of my songs. Nature gives me strength and inspires me. If I can’t go for regular walks in the forest, I feel like something is missing from my life,” she says.
Hanna Marsh’s interpretations of her own songs are quite spectacular. With all their naked emotion and personal honesty, they shock the listener into living the stories with her.
