I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I only joined this MySpace thing so I could hollah at my cousin in Germany and I thought it was infantile. When I discovered that Michelle Ndegeocello was one of his FRIENDS, I thought, WOW, this couldn't be that bad. Most importantly, I found myself wondering about people I've met over the years and if I'd ever see them again. It's so easy to fall out of touch; so I'm doing what I can nowadays to reconnect...

My Interests

CHOCOLATE, sociology, criminology, at-risk youth, thrift shops, tea, afro-brazilian dance, haitian dance, flamenco dance, things to do with kids, and thanks to some beautiful new friends, MUSIC...

I'd like to meet:

People. Witty, witty people. Boston Latin School alumni. Jaded New Yorkers who can still laugh. People who stay up until all hours. People who work out. Peoples.

Music:

Polymorphous funk, rock, country-fried, ethno folk. Everything from Mary and Luther to Lisa Gerard and David Byrne. But independent music kicks ass! Check out Vinx, Marwood, Jason Blum, Michael Bram, ...there's a lot of excellent working musicians out there. Get out and support them!

Movies:

Truly Madly Deeply, Matador, Nine and a Half Weeks, Goodbye Lenin, Our Song, 50 First Dates, The Great New Wonderful...yep, it's all about sex and death and hope and forgetting and stubborn faith.

Television:

Don't usually care, but thanks to Netflix I see why people like Rescue Me, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Desperate Housewives... Anyone that was conscious in the 1970s should get the Electric Company DVD box set right now...

Books:

The Time Bind, Handmaid's Tale, Color Purple, Room Temperature, Are You There God, A Grief Observed, Mythologies...

Heroes:

my Mum, my boss, my husband, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, anyone who has had their heart broken more than once.

My Blog

Theyre shooting monks in Burma

I'm outraged, and quite sad, to think of the evils people are capable of.  The following summary from MoveOn says it all.  First rule of thumb: don't clobber ANYONE who is not capable of lay...

Open mouth, insert foot

2 themes keep coming up in the small talk I've had with countless people lately: the song that you have stuck in your head, and weight loss. I don't have anything cheery to say about either of these t...

I'm no longer in love with Tom

The myspace robot has failed me.  I'm going elsewhere for help on how to "pimp my space" and supress some of the dumb stuff on here.  God help me if I actually have to use the service calle ...

Fuck this death shit

This is a rough time of year for some folks.   I've decided to be proactive about my own winter blues and arrange a Winter Solstice outing:  Thursday, Dec 21st, place TBA.  Please ...

My Space purgatory

So this is My Space?  Should be interesting.  Tonight I was about to dump Tom, the My Space robot who was assigned as my "friend" to show me how cool My Space was, but then I actually read h...
